So what is your biggest contemplation when booking your vacation at TTR? Is it based on the cost of the airfare, the nightly rate at TTR, the dates you pick.... what is most important? The reason we ask is that dates and nightly rate are important to us, but after finding that the nightly rates didn't change much(if any) when switching our dates in a variation of 2 weeks we started to look more at airfare. We found that by picking the right dates we can save $600 USD/per person for direct flight with no stops versus the same non-stop flights on the prime days. Also the prices could save roughly $150/pp compared to odd days with 1-2 stops at poor times wasting days in flight time. Worth it or not? Do we pick the odd days travel and save the cash or stay with our prime dates? The nice part is that we could take the money we are saving and extend the vacation by a couple of days!
For the trip I am currently planning for the spring it's all about direct flights and arrival/departure time. 2 or 3 days per week, my airline of choice has a direct flight home to Vancouver that doesn't leave til 6:30 pm Cancun time. The other days of the week, their flights leave at 10:30 am or 1:30 pm. Flying out at 6:30 pm is like having a whole day more of vacation woot woot! :mnm: I am willing to pay more for direct if the non-direct flights have long layovers, or more than 1 layover. I won't do 2 stops for ANY price. The airlines change their prices as often as daily, so I choose the flights I want, and then check the price every day and book as soon as the price drops. The price on the April flights I've been following have swung from $259 each way to $519 each way from one day to the next. You just have to be patient and be prepared to strike as soon as the price drops! Hope to meet you two this April...you went home a week or so before I arrived last year.
Karen It would be great to meet you finally! Do you have solid dates yet? we are still kind of iffy on our but since finding the new cheaper airfare dates that fit for us we may be overlapping March/April again. the nice part though is that we would be able to get an extra day or 2 out of the deal. We are looking from March 26th-April 4th. It flows well around the kids break from school. Just kind of stinks that we miss the spring break feel of march and then the feel good times of the April Addicts!
I'm with Karen, we book direct flights and pay a little extra. You never know when a flight can be delayed and you're stuck in an airport!
Actually our direct flight is cheaper than all the rest. The only thing is that it would be either on a Thursday or even cheaper on a Tuesday. The nice part like Karen says is that you don't waste time in the airports with delays and connections. It's like getting extra days on your vacation. The direct flight would get us there at 9:30am and would send us out at 10:30am. The same airline, and others, flying on or near the weekend is almost double. Our current findings are $600pp/rt and the closer to the weekend we get it is more like $1200! Nothing like feeling like you're getting ass raped!
tuesday Every day is a good day at Temptation, I would definately travel in the week if it gave me 2 extra days for the same price xx Karen you are lucky I have to get 3 seperate flights and 1 sleepover each way. no chance of direct lol.:cheerleaders:
Generally the airline costs is what we weigh when making the decision. The first time we went (Dec '09), the airline tickets were around $350 each and the price for 6 days 5 nights was less than the cost of the tickets. That's the reason the next time we went, we went for 8 nights and 9 days cuz the airline cost seems to be the same whether we went for 4, 5 or 9 days. Now however, the price for airline tickets are generally $200 more per person (with a connecting flight as there are no directs out of Omaha). When alpha had the ridiculous deal earlier this year, it made it worth it for us but I was one day late.:icon_cry:
Flights are what decides it for us. We are members, so we know what the hotel rate is going to be. I booked the flights a month ago for our May trip. I watch them and set up alerts on Kayak.com. I saw them starting to climb and pulled the trigger and glad I did because they are now over $200 higher/person for the same flight.
