Whew, good to know. It's the only time of year I treat myself too them and they run a bit high at the resort.
Make sure you remember landmarks outside of the resort - the km markers are hard to see when you're on the bus! We tended to get the bus out to places, then paid for a taxi back. The key is to wait for a taxi driver to ask you if you need a lift, not flag one down. We always said 'no we're catching the bus' as most of the time we were happy to get the bus. They would then quote a pretty reasonable price back to the hotel so sometimes we'd take them up on it save having to wait for a bus.
The last time I was there is was 6.5 pesos..now its 8.5 pesos. Basically its still under one U.S. dollar. If your really feeling adventurous you can take the bus to the ADO bus station in town and head down to Playa del Carmen for about 35 pesos (under $4 per person last time I was there) each way. And if thats not enough for you...you can take the ferry from Playa del Carmen to Cozumel ( about $30 round trip I think) The buses run to and from about every 10 or 15 minutes. I try to make it down there every time I go to cancun.
We took the bus to Walmart one day after school girl night. The bus stopped and picked up a whole group of....You guessed it, real school girls from the local school. Jim said he felt like a real perv....lol
