Not only has Cablemas increased the speeds without raising my monthly costs, it's been months now since I've had service interruption problems. Are they getting better, or am I just lucky?
Cablemas I am happy for you V. Unfortunately, I spent a considerable amount of time at Cablemas today trying to resolve issues with my internet that started yesterday. For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction....Didn't someone say that?
UNBELIEVABLY LUCKY!!! For most of June - and now July - I have received LESS than 1Mbps and I pay for 10Mbps. This morning it was so low that a speed test could not work at all! This evening it is a miserable 0.42Mbps - I did better than that in the 1980s!
A buddy of mine had zero internet for a couple of days and came to my house to get some work done. Both of us are on Cablemas. Go figure. Just like perc beaut says "... equal and opposite ...".
Jeesh, from reading this and the other thread which contains comments about Cablemas, it does sound like I've been lucky. It wasn't always so, and I can relate to the stories told here, though some have had it worse. I had to settle for less service than I was promised (and I guess I've gotten used to it) when, at first, I expected to get CNN International, etc. After around five service visits to my home, and three trips to the office to complain, I gave up, disconnected the digital converter and have just watch the 42 or so channels they provide by analog signal. They told me, now a year ago, that the analog signal would soon be cut off, and I would have to again use the digital converter for any TV service, but it hasn't happened yet.
It's not just in Cancun, folks. Cable companies suck. We're using BrightHouse here in Florida. My wife works from home so we NEED connectivity or she doesn't bill. We had poor connections, service interruptions, and various other misery for over a week straight a few weeks ago. We called Verizon and got FIOS installed (optical fibre) as a backup and whooosh, things are working great with them. Brighthouse installed a new cable box for us, and upgraded our service. But now, with the new box, it freezes up and needs to be reset 2-3 times a day or it just doesn't work. I think it's just the way these big companies work... or don't. The service sucks, and if you don't like it, there are a million other customers who pay and don't mind. It brings to mind a Central American Spanish slang that escapes me at the moment that means basically... "Oh well... what can you do about it?"
The Cablemas repairman just left. He was on time, clean and knowledgable. Plugged into the router and performed some tests, then called in to the office and talked for about 5 minutes. He then asked to use my laptop, looked numerous screens, made adjustments online and then did a speed test. 7.5 download and .96 upload. I can live with that. When I first got Cablemas many years ago, I was lucky to get 1.5 download and .67 upload for the same price I am paying today...505 Pesos a month for basic TV and internet and now I have a wireless router. All is well that ends well. With everything now running smoothly, I can spend the rest of the day having fun in the Caribbean sun.
AND HOW LONG DID IT LAST AT THAT SPEED? I have made over a dozen calls this week and on EVERY one which actually connected to a live operator(mostly I get an engaged signal), as soon as I spoke to them they asked me to wait and then deliberately cut the line! I have heard of "going Postal" - I now feel like "going Cablemas" !!!:icon_twisted: BTW: todays' average speed is 0.58bps!!!
