Can anyone advise if they are still playing techno music? We really enjoy dancing and hate that type of music. I mean so bad it's nearly a deal breaker for us. I wish I had known that before we spent 3k. Thanks T&S:aktion061:
It is house music, and yes they do play it often. However, they have some theme nights at Paty O's after around 10:30pm where a live band plays 70s/80s music and they are pretty good. The DJs do not honor requests so much, I think they just have a preset CD for the night and not a long list of stuff to choose on their own. You will hear LMFAO, Black Eyed Peas, Maroon 5 (moves like jagger), and a bunch of other songs like that (there is a thread with you tube videos of the typical music). I got really sick of Party Rock Anthem (yuck!), but after a while you just tune it out. I had my iPhone with my own music and could always go back to the room and play my own tunes if it got intolerable. Honestly, though - I found myself just ignoring the music and talking to people, and having a wonderful time!
Give them a $20 and their playlist expands I find the music tends to be different over the american holidays than when there are a lot of Brits and Europeans.. Probably smart on TTR's part actually.
we were there april 9-16. NO BAND! Crappy house music n they wouldn't take request either. I've been there 7 times n this year is the first time the music really annoyed me! Same crap at night as they play during the day at the pool.
The band were awesome when we were there in January! They were the best nights! Go to Nice Shoes - there was a pianist on a couple of nights we were there after the nightly entertainment finished. Also other option is the Quiet Pool bar. Nice just to chill out and relax at the bar there with the background music till it closes. I could have coped with the Paty O music, only we had a room right next to it, so no chance of escape - you could hear it in your sleep. I think if our room had been situated elsewhere in the hotel it wouldn't have bothered us as much. My plan is to bring mp3 player, speakers, and head down to the beach on a few nights to break it up a bit. Not sure if you're allowed to do that, but if security don't mind, that's my plan.
Actually the music improved after you left, the other DJ mixed it up a bit and we even had some 70's and 80's rock. The band played at the Nice Shoes due to the possibility of showers I think. The tip did get me som requests as well, just depends on who is DJ ing and the his read on the crowd I think. We even had some good music at the pool this year.
I agree with Vince (although I must say that I think that all the music it would take to get Vince to bust a move is someone humming ha ha). The music was great when the one DJ was there, which I think was twice in the week I stayed (April 16-23). They played the kind of songs that Sultryfox listed, with some older stuff like Billy Idol thrown into the mix. I didn't much like the other DJ who played on the 3rd night...too loud and quite a few undanceable songs that were only appreciated by the groups of young single guys. I missed the band completely because I didn't know it had moved into Nice Shoes due to iffy weather, but if it was the same band as last November, it's a good one.
Band was so good! Also lady playing piano in Nice Shoes was really lovely. Got to talk to her a bit as we were pretty much the only ones in there, apart for Dancing Shaun (for a while) and some drunk creeper guy who was too drunk and acting really creepy around her. She asked me "what do you want me to play", and I told her to play what she really enjoyed playing. It's felt nice to get her to enjoy her talent, after creepy guy and all that. Hope she's still around! I wonder if they often have stuff going on in Nice Shoes that gets missed, because everyone thinks it's all going on in Paty O? Didn't see Miss Pianist mentioned in the schedule, but glad I found it by mistake!
Thinking about it, Nice Shoes is a much better area for entertainment, such as the band etc to play. If they could clear the seats to the back, there's plenty more room for dancing and what not. They'd need a bigger bar in there though, as it's just not big enough for full night's entertainment, bar staff servicing both alternative and Nice Shoes. Paty O isn't really built for stuff like the band and other entertainment. Where it's situated, it's more a relaxing space for light music and after hours' music. I found whilst I was there, to get to the dance floor from the bar in Paty O took quite a bit of manoeuvrering around the solid bars etc. Plus, there was no differentation from people dancing and people standing at aforementioned solid bar. Very difficult to move around, and looked quite weird if dance floor was full and you ended up next to someone who was just trying to enjoy their drink and not dance! If it was my hotel, and I had the money, I'd build a new area right by the beach that was part under cover for the hard-party type stuff. Party central on the beach.
