I'm not going to be making any calls but I will probably want to do a few texts now and then or check Facebook or maybe check voicemail, etc. I looked at T-Mobile's website and I'm so friggin' confused. I'm in the U.S. and have unlimited text and data on my smartphone so I'm not sure what I need to add/switch to my plan so I don't return to a huge cell phone bill. ANY help or input?
T- Mobile offers 'WorldClass International Roaming' for free that you must add prior to leaving. That will get you $ 1.49 per minute calls. Incoming texts are $ .20 while outgoing are $ .50. (These are just texts not pictures of Dorothy with Toto at the Sexy Pool). Data in Mexico on TMobile is $ 15 per Mb. I would be careful, you can rack up a huge bill if your not able to turn all of the features off on your phone prior to leaving the country. The phone will constantly interact with the network as the charges rack up.
Just be sure that the service you add is for use when you are outside U.S. We learned the hard way cause they had put international calling from U.S. instead of calls back to U.S. and it did cost a fortune. Checked my phone rates and it will be turned off while in Mexico cause of data charges but I will have my laptop with me so I can check e-mails, etc. from it.
That was our plan -- to keep the phones in AIRPLANE mode or OFF and in the hotel room safe all the time, except for maybe once each morning to check for voicemail and texts. But basically we are NOT using our phones! Maybe we'll get that Mexico Plan as a safety...
Blackberry plan T-mobile offers an International Blackberry plan for 20.00 a month that allows unlimited e-mail. Everything else is charged as described in the response you received earlier.
We have T-Mobile and it worked beautifully in Mexico. Just used it for calls and texts and thought the charges were extremely reasonable.
Yes! On the wireless/network settings of the phone I uncheck the box for "Wi-Fi - Turn on W-Fi". This lessens the chance of using the internet accidentally. The only charges are the texts and phone calls, which are a needed 'cause we've got kids here at home.
Unless something has changes in the past year, all incoming texts that originate in the us are free. You only pay for outgoing. I've been to numerous countries and never been charged for incoming texts. Did get hammered on the outgoing and data though.
