Missed this one earlier, he's just an Indian spammer who copy and pasted the (outdated) info from another website so he could drop his clients link. Did this in five other places too. Deleted and banned.
The R-2 bus is the one that goes to the Walmart stop. Get off, cross the street and walk a block toward the tall antennas. Walmart and Sam's are right there. To go to Market 28, get off at the same stop and walk back to the last light you passed. Go left there (north) and you will walk right to Mkt 28. You sort of bear around to the right like the road does. You will then see a big M28 sign. If you goof up and go north at the next street AFTER the stop, where a big yellow and red sign read Elektra is across the street, walk north to the traffic circle, then go right and you will run right into Mkt 28 that way too. If you go to Mkt 28 from the Elektra area, on the near left corner at that referenced traffic circle, there is a local favorite restaurant called Tacos Rigo. You can pretty much get by without spanish. Just point to what you want on the menu and act like you are air signing your name to get the check. Be safe.
I don't think I have ever NOT gotten my change back correctly in all the times I've taken the bus! Even on the very rare occasions when I've paid with a 200 peso bill because that is simply all I've had. It might take a while for the driver to come up with enough to give me change, but they've always called me up once they have it. I guess I've always been confused by when people say that they've not gotten change...you just stand there and wait for it!
Most of the time they run out of the 50 centavo coins. So if you add up all the times that has happened, my bus fare for a week would be covered. And they do a 10 to 1 when you pay with a USD no matter the exchange rate. So, that would qualify as not getting correct change in my book.
We were in Cancun in March and I saw people getting change back for an American dollar. Tori is correct in it is 8.5 pesos and the bus will have a big #2 on the front. May or maynot say Walmart and Market 28 on the passanger front window. It is very simple to use the bus in Cancun. If you tell the driver where your going he will tell you your stop. On the way back from Walmart the #1 or #2 bus will take you back to the hotel. Just hit the button on the top hand rail and he will stop. Then just be careful crossing the street to the beach side.
To perhaps clarify the last post, and to keep folks from wandering around, the bus to the HZ from Walmart is NOT across the street from where you got off the bus. The bus you need, R-2, has a bus stop out the door of Walmart, go left to the street, then go left about 15 yards and there it is. "If" an R-15 stops here, it should say Hotel Zone in some form and you are good to go. The R-1 runs from the hotel zone and then makes a right at the 2nd downtown light, Avenida Tulum. Bus stops to the hotel zone for the R-1, are on Tulum, but across the street from where you would have gotten off. The R-1 really does not go that close to Walmart. If you were to take the R-1 to town and want to go to Walmart, when the bus makes the right turn onto Tulum, get out at the first stop and cross the street at the crosswalk. Pedestrians have the right of way in the raised crosswalks. You will be walking toward Chedraui at this point. Walk to the left, Ave. Coba, the same street where you just turned off of. Make a right at the end of the Chedraui. Just after the 3rd light from here, you will see a bus stop with a lot of people normally waiting. It is just past a money exchange place. Cross the street here and you will walk beside a 3-4 story white building. When you get to the next street Walmart is on the opposite side. There is also a Sam's Club. Again, if you are going back to the hotel zone, the stop is beside the right side of Walmart if you were facing Walmart from the front.
Gotcha, Tori...suppose I meant based on 10 to 1, though that's incorrect too! I just go into that expecting this rate, but I see what you mean. Truly never had the 50 centavo issue! I'm sure once or twice but not nearly enough to have lost the bulk of a week's transportation...that's irritating.
It's easy to ask for the check in Spanish, even my husband can do this: La Quenta, por favor (the check please!):aktion069:
While it is an easy phrase to say, waiters here aren't up your butt the entire time, so from across the room you can ask for the check by doing what TJ said. It's customary here, and not thought of as a rude gesture.
