If anyone "may" be interested in splitting a fly fishing charter, we are there the April 11th-18th. I am not sure yet if Jenn wants to go so I might be interested in splitting with someone (I believe they are a max 2 per boat). The 14th is out as we are going on Steve's cruise and I am considering the 13th or 16th as possible days to go. I guess there are a few options- 4hrs+ hrs in Cancun or 8hrs in Isla Blanca. Also, if anyone has any tips on deals/guides, etc... please feel free to pass them on. See you all in a couple of days!!!

You are better off walking across the street to the lagoon side. You can catch all sorts of fish, Tarpon especially, for free! Don't pay a charter, this is much more than they will provide, they only put you on fish if your willing to have it taxidermied at there price!

Really? A lot of the charters I looked at were catch and release only... So should I pack my 4 pc fly rod and cross the street? Any other input is greatly appreciated!!!

What about a fishing license to do that? I wouldn't want to end up in the clink for a Tarpon :) Thanks.

I've not done this yet but keep intending to.

The lagoon is literally across the street from the hotel, you'll need to walk a little to the right to find an access point to the water though. Thing is you'll be on the shore with dense jungle either side and above you and a dual carriageway right behind you. I dont think you're going to have room to cast a fly, and it will be noisy, hot and likely lots of mosquitos. Locals often fish there but they don't fly fish, just drop a bait in the water. Imho you need a boat to take full advantage.

About 400 yds on the opposite side of the street to the right of the hotel there is a sign with a tel no offering lagoon fishing. I'm not recommending them as I've never used them and know nothing of them, but it is maybe the closest option. If you're really serious about it then I'd suggest Isla Blanca, again I haven't used any services there but from stuff I've read that's where the guys who book specific fly fishing vacations go. It's abit of a journey - 45 mins to an hour I'd guess.

As for a licence, I wouldn't worry too much about it -no idea if one is required. If so it will be included with any organised trip and if not the chances of being asked to produce one are next to zero, and nothing $10 wont fix.

If it wasnt at such a busy period for me I'd have come along with you, but we are at the hotel 12/13, Boobs Cruise 14 and 19 and catching up with work inbetween.

Steve that's very helpful information..... when you say to the right of the hotel.......is that to the right as your leaving the hotel... or to the right as your facing the hotel.......and the entrance point to the lagoon is a public access? Thanks.....:anon:

Leaving the hotel, cross the street, turn right and walk a little way. You cant go wrong, the other side of the road is the ocean :)

There are plenty of little access points. They are literally within feet of the main road - so yes publicly accessible.

Thanks for the info Steve... Too bad you are busy but I will keep looking around. A friend of mine just came back from the Mayan and he booked an excursion there through the resort. They had some luck but he said it was quite windy that day. See you on the 12th... Scott
