We know money at times changes people's minds.
Have you ever bribed any of the workers at TTR? (I mean more than regular tips)
What did you say, how much $$ did you give or what else did you give in return?
What were you able to get or have ignored as a result of it?

** Update: I agree, perhaps bribe is not the correct term to use. I mean something more on the lines of a more generous tip?

Never offered a bribe but I am interested in the answers. I have heard of people getting room upgrades or being left alone on the beach at night with the help of a little bit of cash

Bribe is a harsh word.. lol.. We have given a "large tip" to the front desk and they "found" a much nicer room for us years ago. Now we just automatically upgrade to a jacuzzi room... so much easier. We also give "large tips" to each of our favorite bartenders and get wonderful service!

Always tipped bar staff, pool staff, restaurants as standard and never considered that a bribe. As for room, a couple we spoke to from CancunCare, they were told their room wasn't ready when they checked in. They waited a few hours, and when the room was still not ready they bribed them about $200 pesos and the room was miraculously ready right away!

As far as I can tell in Cancun bribes are King and any service you want to improve, try a bribe and it'll bring results. Harsh, but I that's how I feel.

A group of us were heading out for a 3AM skinny dip, but a guard informed us that "the ocean is closed." When we stopped laughing, we offered him $20 and the ocean was open.

Bribes only work if few people do it

Upon check in on our last trip, I gave the front desk person a little box of chocolate with a twenty sitting on top. I asked her if she had anything on the quiet side. She put us in a jacuzzi room. I really only wanted a quiet room so the "bribe" worked far better than expected.

I have never attempted extra $ at check in. Will keep that one in mind. I have however been allowed a "night swim" for $ 20.

Tips are fine, but please don't "bribe" the staff. Not only could they get fired it also promotes the practice and gives rise to poorer "normal service".

That goes for anywhere in Cancun, not just hotel staff - but especially the Police.
