We usually take the ferry over and spend the day on our own every time we go. Catch the first ferry around 9am. The ferry is actually just a short 5-10min walk at Embarcado. It's the same place that the Pirate ships park at the bridge. $15us pp roundtrip I think. But be sure not to miss the last ferry to leave the island to come back at 5pm or you are stuck there. We rent a golf cart for the day tour around the island, stop at corner stores and pick up cervezas for the drive. Tour up and down all the little side streets to see how the locals live. Then back to main town for all kinds of little restaurants and shopping. We like to eat at Jax Bar and Grill. It is owned by a Texas couple and you know it is safe to eat there. Cleanliness is top notch and the food is great. Be sure to go all the way to each tip of the Island. The right side is scenic and rocky, the left side is the main town and really nice beaches. I HIGHLY recommend doing this on your own. Going on a tour just doesn't give it enough time or justice. If you want to rent a golf car they do require your license and you have to leave it with them until you take the car back. Have fun!!!!
We did this last year with 8 of us couples...we had a blast!!! The ferry is definitely in walking distance....once you are on the beach turn right and walk about 5-10 minutes on the beach. You will eventually end up at the little shopping market where you buy your tickets--was $15 last year. When you get off the ferry turn right and go a few blocks to rent the golf carts. We haggled and got the price down to $40 per cart. We then continued to the right on our carts and you eventually will come to the drive thru liquor store---that was a hoot. If you have a collaspable cooler bag it would be great to take as you can buy all of your cheap liquor and ice right there. We actually ended up using plastic bags to keep our ice and drinks in. We wanted to go to Oscars (another American owned resturant) but was closed last year. Our friends were there in Feb this year and said it was delicious and some of the best shrimp. We spent the entire day just tooling around on our golf carts from tip to tip on the island. It was a blast! :lotsofmichaelfs:
So we should assume that the policia ignore the driving the golf carts while intoxicated and drinking ? Just don't want to end up in the Mexican slammer.:ass:
Drive thru licker store!!! How the hell did we miss that! Guess we're gunna have to plan another trip soon so we can experience that. Haven't been home even a month and we're sooo ready to go back!!
We've done both the Ferry and Boobs Cruise. You can see more of the island with the Ferry- get there early rent golf carts while drinking beer, lunch at a local restuarant.... The Boobs Cruise will give you a taste of the Island (and a taste of a lot of other wonderful things!)
ah, well maybe we'll run in to each other on the back roads in town.. going down the street the wrong way lol
Staying in Isla Mujeres May 12th-19th at Privelege Aluxes with about 12 others. You don't want to miss an opportunity to see and experience this island if you are this close. Take the ferry over...you are only 20 minutes away from North Beach.....mos def rent a golf cart and travel the entire island all the way to Punta Sur! You will love it....Any other questions....talk to kingfish78734 on this forum......He and his wife have been there at least 10 times......He should be Mayor!!!
