Well that was a fun morning...

I called Premier to pay for our reservation in May. After a long hold, give the guy my name and reservation number, he takes my card number over the phone and puts me on hold. He comes back and says the charge has been declined. Thinking it was the "International thing", I say okay, I will call the card company and authorize the charge. About 5 minutes after I hang up, my cell phone rings... HSBC, the issuing card company. They locked the account, canceled the card and will be sending me a new one in 3-5 days.

They stated there are open investigations for fraud from the merchant (Temptations) and their merchant account (Banorde) and therefore cannot use my card with them. Looks like I will be paying by check...

    Anyone else experience this recently?

Hmmm... we have to call Premier soon to pay as well as I think it needs to be paid 30 days before you go there. We will let you know.

I had the same thing happen to me last month but not sure where my card info was compromised. I booked my room through Alpharooms, my flights with US Airways and ordered Lingerie from two different online sites. Next thing I know my card was cancelled and a new one was being mailed to me. They didn't tell me which place caused the issue only that a merchant I had used my card with had reported that their system had been compromised. I had a new card within a week and everything is good now.

We haven't seen anything posted online as Premier fraud with credit cards, paid for our time back in Feburary. But the wife did have her CC scanned at some point in Paris through her purse and was hit with $2500 in charges. check out RFID and credit card scanners. This can happen with your passports too.

I called HSBC back later on today and asked just to verify that it was this transaction that sent the alerts up and they were pretty clear that is was this transaction. When I asked what would happen if I tried to use my new card to pay, they stated, it would be locked again. So not sure what is going on, but I am glad that my credit cards are on top of it. This is also a rarely used card and has no RFID. I do use a RFID case for my passport and also certain cards in my walled.

I also do InfoSec for a living :)

Damn Gary. Sounds like you dodged a bullet. We booked through Alpharooms this year and didn't have a problem. We have never booked directly with TTR.
Maybe Jenn just maxed it out. I still love you Jenn.

If you read my profile, you'll see I work in the banking industry. Well, my particular field is credit card fraud (investigations). What has probably happened is the site where they store the credit card data (acct#'s, expiration dates, etc) has been compromised. Alot of companies pay a third party to store their data and those third parties keep the data stored on a website. The hackers hack into the website and low and behold, are provided with literally, hundreds of thousands of accts. It usually takes a while to get everything closed down (talking months) for the vendor and the banks affected. We try to limit our customers exposure as much as possible and also try to provide them with a "good customer experience" but in this day and age it seems we're always one step behind. We get up and go to work all day, they get up and try to figure out what they can do so they don't have to work.

Hope everything works out. This is good info for me to know though (on the professional side). Sorry its happened but thanks for posting it.
