Continuing on from the beach area next to Wet and Wild toward the hotel zone, I past Rio Nizuc and it was packed with cars and people. What is the attraction there? Has anyone been to the beach there?
Pocodinero my wife and I always liked the quite at Playa Langosta. It was really quite during the week and mostly just locals, which we really liked, during the weekend. I dont live in Cancun, but that is where we mostly went to the beach on our last vacation there. We always stay downtown and that was an easy place to go off the bus. And hardly any annoying tourists......
Poco: I got "thrown out" by the cops when I took one of our dogs... Maybe they are more relaxed now? Punta Nizuc is packed during the weekends. I usually go there for some fishing and snorkeling. If one goes past the tiny parking lot, towards the ocean, there is a decent sea-food restaurant to enjoy If you swimming/snorkeling at Nizuc, be aware of the speed boats("Jungle Tour") that pas frequently. And in the evenings, mosquitoes!!!
Can you give me some more info on that place? I drove around that area before and all I could find was a wall by some water and what looked like a restaurant on the right? Is there more if you go further? I'm going to try and get to that beach by wet and wild, I think I saw it from the park, had some nice looking apartments by it?
Sam: Punta Nizuc is fairly small. There is a beach right next to the restaurant. Didnt swim as the locals used it as a giant washing-machine. I always stay in the canal/"river" for some easy accessible snorkeling. Kind of cool the area itself, but can get very crammed during the weekends. The beach at Wet N Wild is ok. They have really fixed the entrance area and re-furbished the parking lots etc. I only had issues with the calm water, as the seaweed kind of stayed put. That and sea-lice. I assume that depends on currents, weather and if they have scraped off the seaweed? Its the very same beach you are looking at when climbing the "Kamikaze" in the park Havent walked towards the flats, yet... One of the dogs took off after some birds and came back muddy, so not sure if the water is nice in that area or not.
so all we have is beaches north of Puerto Morelos? What about nice beaches before you get to Playa Del Carmen? I think my best bet is to head to Tulum and go venturing, always wanted to see Sian Kaan.
We really enjoy Playa Norte on Isla Mujeres. Yes it can get crowded, but perfect for little ones. In the hotel zone, really the one we're most found of is south of the Westin Regina at KM 20. Waves not quite as strong and decent snorkeling as well. South, I'd say Maroma (Orient-Express), Xcacel, Xpu-Ha, and El Paraiso in Tulum are the best. Loco Gringo has aerial photos of the entire coast south of Cancun, here is the link: Tulum/ Sian Kaan beach looking north photo tour, aerial images
ARRGH You are correct sir the one and only Mad Dog! You can take the dog out of the fight but you cant take the fight out of the dog.
