I haven't been to Cancun since 2004 when I was in high school. I'm now a graduate student who is taking a spring break to Cancun. What has changed? I'm older and a bit quieter now. I probably want a more relaxing experience than a non-stop party atmosphere.

I've only been once and that was last year 2011. I think you cant avoid the party at night if you go out. The party will eventually find you. However through the day depending where your staying its pretty easy to just relax. Day time i just recovered and relax around the pool until on it again at night. If your hotel your booked in is busy or hectic all the time (As Oasis and Krystal has been often reported to be like) then i suppose you can find a quiet area on the beach to just relax.

My memory serves me well i think I've read that 2004-06 was Cancun's best times? and since then its dipped but slowly on the up again. I'm sure the vets out there will correct me if I'm wrong however like i said I've only been once and that was 2011.... and i loved it either way.

As best I recall, Cancun was in it heyday for spring break in the early 2000s. The faltering U.S. economy and then subsequent incidents (for lack of a better word) in Mexico resulted in a significant drop of U.S. tourism.

For me, I picked Cancun because it offers a lot and it's cheap.

I just want to lay on the beach all day, explore about one day to the ruins (I didn't do that before), and then maybe have a bit of fun, but nothing extreme, in the evening.

That's easily done then. you can dictate how 'hectic' your nights are by simply watching your drink. but still go to where the party is at for the atmosphere.

A TON has changed. Locations of things, new clubs, new restaurants etc. Even with all the new additions and what not, it's still the same Cancun as you left it.

So what are the places now? Back then it was Coco Bongo, Dady O, The City, Senor Frogs and Pat O'Brians.
