Reading a thread about waterproof cameras got me thinking on how you keep your items safe by the pool or at the beach? Do you bring a bag with you to the pool and keep cameras and other items/electronics in the bag? Last year, at a different resort, I forgot my sandals on the beach and when I went back a couple hours later they were gone. I went to lost and found and asked about them but even after a few days nobody had turned them in. I liked those sandals!! So any problems with cameras/ electronics/ other items being taken and not turned in at lost and found?

We did lose some cash from our beach bag one afternoon. Left it laying at our chair while getting a drink. Believe it was someone passing through with little kids. Apparently that is one of their tactics. Use the cute kids to either do the stealing or to distract while they do it. If you see these types lingering on the beach keep an eye on them.:icon_idea:

I brought a bag down to the Sexy Pool with my camera, some money for tipping, sunscreen, etc and would leave it under lounge chair at the pool and never had any problems. But the men in my group where usually hanging close by while us girls would socialize around the pool. There were never any issues with anyone taking anything from it.

On the first day however, I accidentally left my expensive sunglasses at the swim-up bar in the sexy pool. It was towards the end of the afternoon and the pool was almost completely cleared out and there was no one left sitting at the swim-up bar when we all left. I got back to my room and immediately noticed and was back down to the pool within 5 minutes. They were gone. I hate to say it but I think it was one of the bartenders.

And like an idiot I only brought that one pair so that made it tough for the rest of the trip.

we never had a problem with anything there... we left our bag around the pool all day.... we had our water proof camera with us at all time in my pocket in the bag was juat some sun screen and things like that.... we only bring cheep sun glasses with us when we go south... but then again thats all we use here...lol.... so if we did loose them it wouldn't be a big lost to us... but we bring at least 3 pairs with us just in case.

TTR in this respect is like every other hotel in the world. Leave something expensive out unattended and don't be surprised if it's gone when you get back. Is it the staff, other guests? Hard to tell and one will never know. I've seen people with lots of money steal from other people and dirt poor people chase someone down to return an expensive item.

We bring a bag down to the pool and put our loose stuff in it and close it up, usually a backpack that is somehow attached to a chair or table so it can't be easily grabbed. Never have lost anything that way. We are also always covering up camera, purses, wallets of other folks that just drop them on the end of their chairs and walk away.

I once left my shoes and watch down by the pool, went in for my power nap and when dressing for dinner three hours later realized I didn't have my shoes. I ran back to the pool area and after asking around came up with the shoes but no watch. It was a 20 years old $20 Timex that had won the ugliest watch contest in Anything Goes for three years running so I wasn't too broken up about that, cause I was stupid and left it out. I was REALLY glad to get the shoes back because they were the only pair I brought. :)

People over the years have accused everyone from maids, to bartenders, to cleaning crews of stealing their stuff. Some swear on a stack of bibles that after they came back drunk from the bar they put everything in their safe only to find it gone, with the safe still locked, when they woke up later and sobered up.

Bottom line, people lose stuff, people steal stuff, both rich and poor. Be sensible, don't leave your stuff out in plain sight and walk away and expect everyone to be saints. Take reasonable precautions and you should be just fine.

My wife left her sandals out on the beach one night and the next day we picked them up at the front desk. Whoever found them turned them in, not that they were really expensive just the fact that it happened was nice.

Reminds us a little of TTR Cabo...left nice pair of Reef sandals by the pool...they were gone. Then left a pair of Nike running shoes by pool. Went to lost and found and got 1 Nike back and 1 Reebok. Whatever...I took them.

:mnm:We have always left a bag with our daily goodies (so we don't miss a second at the pool) and have never had anyone take anything. You will meet so many people where ever you leave your bag that there is always someone looking out for you or your stuff. There will always be the odd time something will be taken so take note and don't keep large amounts of money or anything your not willing to lose unattended. Why take the chance and ruin your best vacation ever!!!!! :huepfen013:

We've never had a problem at TTR with anyone stealing our things. Usually if we need to leave the area to get a drink, get food, or take a walk we usually just cover up our bag or whatnot with our towel so they arent in plain sight. We usually only bring essentials down to the pool however like sunscreen, book to read, sunglasses, money to tip...etc. I am going to bring a waterproof cam this year & am planning to buy one of the floaty straps for it so I can carry it with me. We also have never had anything stolen from the room. There have been several posts on a couple of the threads where people have accidently left money sit out in their rooms & it was still there after their rooms were cleaned. We always try to remember to lock everything up in the safe when we lleave that is of any value. i think as Jamie pointed out the main thing is just to be careful & dont leave anything out that u would be heartbroken if it was taken. We like to think the people at TTR are of a higher caliber of people because everyone we have met have been so awesome but in reality unfortunate things may happen just like anywhere else...so just be smart & careful.

To say that our camera was "stolen" might be a bit of a stretch. We got drunk one night, set it down somewhere, and realized we were missing it in the morning. We searched everywhere we were that night with no luck. It was completely our fault and we learned a valuable lesson.. but, we checked with lost and found all week to see if it had been returned and it hadn't. Tough luck I guess.
