LOL I did the same thing when i went to TTR on Halloween 2010 ... I fail to see how topless women could be a bad thing!

Reading this thread prompted me to post a review on Tripadvisor about my Dec/11 TTR trip to defend "our" hotel and make some of the naysayers look foolish. It's under the same username as I have here on CCC. I had fun writing it! :icon_mrgreen:

Great review, loved your title. Just noticed though one of the recent reviewers also reviewed it in 2010 and gave it 5 stars but apparently now it has become the worst vacation ever.:aktion069:

Yes, I saw that "worst vacation ever" review!

I think what might happen for a lot of negative reviewers is that there are some rooms that truly leave something to be desired, and then the front desk is not overly helpful (I have noticed at both TTR Cabo and TTR Cancun that the front desk staff are nowhere near as pleasant and accommodating as the other staff...maybe because they don't usually get tips?), and the guest gets his back up, and then it all goes to hell after that and the trip starts out with a P.O.'d guest who sees the rest of the resort thru those lenses. I was supposed to go to TTR Cancun in october instead of december, and I read reviews from the October trips and some of the ground floor rooms flooded. Perhaps the musty/moldy smell is a real problem in those rooms...I have no idea, as I was on the second floor in the 2000 block and my room was terrific.

I like Trip Advisor and try to write reviews not only negative but positive, as well. Have I written one for TTR? Good question....I need to look and see. I have stayed at hotels with bad reviews such as one in Chicago. It was an old, boutique type hotel which hosted old movie stars. People complained it was old, etc....I loved it. It was quaint and cool. My point is...we all have our likes and dislikes. I have found on Trip Advisor that there are many people who complain about everything. Nothing makes them happy. TTR can only benefit from the negative reviews that I read. As another person said, those are not the type of people I want to hang out with at TTR. Those reviews will hopefully deter all the prudish types. I will never forget the look on the lady's face from above at the swing bar as I lay upon the swim-up bar waiting for my body shot. The look of disgust almost....ALMOST...made me jump up and forget about it. Her look still haunts me. Go home or go to Moon Palace cuz I don't want to see that face ever again. Thank you, Trip Advisor.

I think some people like the feeling of control/power they get from being able to negatively report on things like that - and then get even more out of the "helpful" votes from it.

I've posted 3-4 reviews on there, but I usually only post if I've actually got something to say... not just to rant - or worse - telling you nothing but a recount of my vacation.

    Here's the deal as well....

Some pay 60 dollar 2 hour flights on Spirit and pay 330 for 3 nights for 2 of us...

Some fly half way around the world for thousands and pay 1500 for 3 nights in peek season march/ April ...

Obviously the reviews and expectations will vary....

We fall somewhere in the middle as we go the last week of February (week before spring break) and pay top dollar though it is a 3 star resort. We just can't put a price on fun.

I have been to one of the nicest, poshest resorts in Riviera Maya and
practically slept all day due to boredom. Tom and I made friends with the bartenders and most of the vaca pics are of our Mayan server friends that year. Thank goodness some crazy cheese heads came to the resort to visit and have a drink otherwise we probably would have went the whole trip without meeting any fun people. I might be ok to go back if my flight was $60 but probably not.
