Trip Report – Opinion - Long post

i apologise mike for wearing the thong in front of you,was it better when i wasn't wearing it?i don't like tan lines.i wasn't wearing it for the guys,but i did get a p.m. from someone's wife who told me that i should wear them.but i found they were too restrictive on the boat

 

Dude, it isnt the thong so much as what you were packing, you made some of us feel "shrinkage"

I agree about drinks being watered down, and I did a test to prove it. I like drinking vodka and redbull, and bought a few cans from the shop over the road from the resort, hence once back at the bar only needed to ask for a shot of vodka which I filled up with half a can of redbull. Before I added the redbull I took a sip of the straight vodka. Normally, doing that would be followed by me wincing from the strength and a burning sensation down my throat. That didn't happen, and as a big vodka drinker I could clearly tell it wasn't full strength from the bottle.

That being said, on one day, I ordered a vodka and diet coke at the Sexy Pool (poured into my bubba keg), and it was really strong. I was drunk off that one drink that day alone. Maybe they forgot to water that bottle down!

I mostly stuck with the watered down drinks, which was actually in my favour, because I do have a tendency to try to drink too much! If I wasn't getting a buzz on, I'd just order a shot of tequila or two!

Be warned, drinks on Steve's cruise are NOT watered down, which is why I had the unfortunate problem of being way too drunk by the time we got back! I got used to drinking shots of tequila at the resort and being fine. A few too many on Steve's cruise and I was a little worse for wear!

 

Thank you for the TR. Although we are repeaters, we still enjoy reading trip reports.

We are fortunate to get non-stop flights from St. Louis. 2.5 hours and we are in the Cancun airport. We always use USA Transfers even though our vaca package comes with transport to the hotel. A private car straight to the resort is worth the extra money to us to get the party started.

We always bring lots of singles, fives and twenties because we believe in tipping everyone. They remember who is tipping. I have even tipped at the swim up bar in a way that Jose used his teeth to get the twenty.

More Stuff

Some updates

TV

I am guessing you are not going to Temptations to watch TV so this is probably a moot point. But to summarize, there are two basic things you can watch on TV, 18 channels of soccer (aka football) and one channel of 24 hour a day ass porn. Yes you read that correctly. There are a few other channels, almost all in Spanish. Don't go there expecting to catch up on news, watch movies or see what is happening back home on the TV. Go outside and party !

Bugs

I was pleasantly surprised how few bugs there were. During some months of the year the bees come out. They are looking for sugar and hang out at the bar. If you see a lot of bees, check your drink to make sure one of them didnt get caught stealing your margarita and you are safe. If you leave food in your room long enough the ants will eventually come. If you see some large beetle looking thing at night, it also flies so be prepared to jump back because you may not be expecting this.

The Sexy Pool - Part Two

The pool is used a lot and some of the tiles have fallen off so there are some sharp corners you can step on. Be careful. Also after a few drinks you may forget where the steps are. If you look at some of the pictures from Sultryfox you can see some really nice bruises where she fell.

Computers (Geek talk)

Dont bother bringing your laptop if you dont have wireless. There is no ethernet in the rooms. The wireless is 1mb 802.11 b connection split between 50+ users. Unless you have to bring a laptop, dont. Its heavy and the electricity in the rooms spikes enough that without a good surge protector you are risky one fried laptop.

I have a kindle fire and with the wireless I got all the real world information I needed.

Cell Phones

For the love of gawd, turn off your roaming on your smart phone (iphone, android, etc) for data. If you dont you can be charged from $3.00 ~ $10.00 per megabyte downloaded. My daughter works for verizon and has told horror stories of people coming back from Mexico with thousands of dollars in data roaming charges. Smart phones will constantly try to download data if you allow them to.

For normal phone calls or text messages you are in a foreign country so there will be fees. Calls are going to run you from $1.00 to $5.00 per minute and text messages from $0.25 to $2.00 per message. My opinion, leave all that stuff turned off.

If you get wireless, send messages through facebook or something similar. Its much cheaper that way. There are ways to leach wireless without paying for it, but I will leave that to you to figure it out.

Swingers / The Lifestyle

I am sure some of this goes on, but I would not go there expecting this to be the norm in anyway. Don't read the reviews on travel sites that say the place is a wild orgy or a brothel it isn't. Yes people have fun, but no one is pressuring you into doing anything.

Digital Cameras

Take lots of pictures but be respectful of other people that may not be wearing much in the ways of clothes. They may not want their picture taken. Also, make sure you have the memory of the camera freed up so you can take lots of pictures. Be careful that the sand and water doesnt get on the camera.

That One Creepy Guy

Both times I have been to Temptations there has been one creepy guy that appears to constantly be hitting on the women. If this happens, walk up to him, say in a very nice way, back off and he will. If not, call security. I doubt it will come to that.

The Music

The music at night is techno / house music. I think they play ten different songs over and over. You eventually tune it out. And since there are so many hot women dancing to it, enjoy the show.

In-Room Safe

Use it but don't forget your code. I doubt anything is going to be stolen, this is just a good place to leave your valuables so you don't forget them.

ATM and Credit Card Fees

Try not to use the ATM to get cash, you may get hit with a very large international cash exchange rate fee. This sucks, trust me. Even if you use a credit card there may be additional transaction fees from that card to compensate for foreign transactions. Bring cash, its easier.

Toilet Paper and Pillows

The toilet paper is the cheapest made. I think it could also be used as a low grit sandpaper. Bring two rolls from home and you wont regret it.

We brought our own pillows and they made a difference. They are also good on the plane if you want to sleep.

Secret Food Items, not on the menu

So far I have found every restaurant has at least one or two things they make that arent on the menu. The habenero salsa in the tex/mex place is excellent, but you have to ask for it. Ask people you meet what they have found. Some of these hidden items are incredible.

Thanks for the awesome TR. Just to add tho. As far as the cell phones go, we have Verizon & what we have done the last cpl times we went was add an international package to our plan right before we go which normally is like an extra 60.00 on ure bill. When we came home we told them we wanted it taken off & so they prorated it which ended up being about 15.00 for while we were there. This includes texts & internet but for phone calls it was still so much per min (forget what exactly but way cheaper then w/out plan).
