Do you guys know anybody that I can call to come here and install a door for me? The door would separate the living room from the little cocina here. I figure it should be easy for someone who knows what they're doing as there is already a wall with just enough empty space for a door to be put there. I can buy the door from Home Depot... but I've never installed a door and I think it may be better to talk to the person who will install it first before I buy and attempt to carry it here.

If you guys know anybody who I can call to come here and do this for a fair price, please tell me. (It would help if the person had a semi-decent grasp of English.)

I made a trip to Home Depot in Cancun yesterday and I saw that the they just shamelessly lack some of the main things that I would expect any Home Depot to have, like drywall, lumber, and wall insulation material. Is there a Home Depot alternative to visit anywhere in town to see if I can find stuff like lumber and wall insulation foam sheets?! I'm not sure if foam sheets even exist in this part of the world, but would still be willing to hit a couple other places in hopes of finding it.

    dx,

Doesn't Home Depot have lumber all the way on the right side of the store, out the side doors front right and rear right?

Drywall is not a big deal here as there is so much flooding, due mostly to poor drainage, that walls are mostly concrete. I know a guy who makes expensive and cheap doors and he can install them but his English is non existent. Sorry.

Be sure to get a threshold and to allow for expansion and contraction, due to humidity. Otherwise your door may swell and you will seemingly have to break it down to get it open. That won't be fun.

You might have to deal with a mentality of having to build the door frame, as opposed to finding a prehung door that will fit. You're not in Kansas any more Dorothy.

    Good luck.

We have gotten sheet rock at Home Depot for various uses at our Casa here in the HZ. Seems that you need to ask for their better quality stuff and not just what is on display at the far north warehouse like end of the store.

We have a carpenter who has made doors (both interior and exterior), updated our kitchen cabinets, made closets and cabinets and unique (my specs, LOL) furniture items for us.

If you are interested in seeing his work and/or getting his contact info, please PM me for more detail.

We've found his prices to be more than reasonable for the quality and workmanship that he provides.
