That is exactly what I am afriad of.... The wife wants to try Puerto Rico or the Florida Keys.... Anyone ben there? Are the beaches what I am looking for like in Cancun?
The beaches near the town of Tulum are great, as Rawkus and others have said- more than one hundred meters deep, with white, powdery sand. From the airport at Cancun it's only about 1.5 hours away.
Yes I have been there and love it... I should of been more speicifc.... we are looking somewhere other than the Cancun/Yucatan area.... We are having trouble finding flights into Cancun and want to try something different for spring break. We will still go to Cancun but after spring break.
OK, your issue is transportation, it seems, because you can't improve on the beaches in this area, in my opinion. I've been to Roatan- nice, but no better, and expensive to get to. Cuba, nice, but you've first got to get here, so there is no savings. Thailand, nice, but have you priced those tickets? Bite the bullet, pay what you have to, and come on down. We've got the best beaches, and cheapest airfares going, for those coming from North America!
We are also a beach family and love cancun, Florida and the best place ever beaches Turks and Caicos .....
Siesta Key and Clearwater Beach, Florida are great beaches. Clearwater is more crowded, lots to do. Aruba, St. Martin(french side) are a couple favorites.
My first ever experience with powdery, fine white sand, and crystal clear water was at Ko Samet, in Thailand. My wife and I were sure glad to find the same closer to home, on the Yucatan Peninsula. It's a far cry from the sand and sea I grew up with, on the Texas Coast of the Gulf of Mexico.
The beaches of the south pacific ie fiji, french polynesia look beautiful. I think it costs a huge amount to go there from anywhere in the world though due to it being in the middle of the oceon miles from anything haha
