Well here it is the bad news. I have two tears in my posterior menicus and posterior root, severe degenerative and thinning of the articulating cartilage on the medial side. Tricompartmental Osteoarthitis with severe degernative change in medial compartment and patella, edema, and a bakers cyst. I am looking at surgery to repair the menicus and well the arthritis will just insures that my knee stays screwed for life The doctor is suggesting that I splint or brace my knee until surgery. What the hell, it is way stronger than it was three months ago when I really couldn't walk at all. The time to suggest the splint was then, not now since it is stronger. He is also suggesting not being weight bearing at all. For now I am booking an appointment with m family doctor( as this doctor was very new to it) and asking her for an ortho consult for surgery.I don't agree with being non weight bearing and weakening my muscle even further. Anyways I am gonna research the rehab and do it. I am gonna continue the rehab I have been doing on my leg cause I know it is working cause nothing will protect my knee more than strong quads and hamstrings. Surgery however is in my future but I really did expect to hear that.
your right get a second and third opinion!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! when i hurt my knee it took 6 weeks to get into the orthopedic surgeon. in the meen time they had me wearing a brace, so it was imobile. come to find out i should of been working it to keep the flexibility. so had to start all over. waited 6 months to see if it would heal up, but the acl was tore almost compleatly through. recovery after surgery was a walk in the park compared to the rehab after wearing the dumb brace for 6 weeks!!!!!!!! the good thing about working out and staying str5ong is, he was concered at my age, then 40 that he might have to use plastic parts. but there was ample viable ligement to spare. now its just as good as the other knee. all will be good youll see!!!
wholly crap!.. defiantly get a second opinion.. especially if what he is saying doesn't make sense if its getting better..:banghead:
Hello everyone. I am Chris, the male half of staceychris.... Just wanted to say congrats to all of you on this thread for trying to be healthy! (sorry about the knee Monique!) it's a pretty difficult road that takes a lot of determination and persistence especially with an injury!!! My wife has not spoke on this thread yet...but I just wanted to say how proud of her I am too! Yesterday she did 1.75 miles in 30 min on the treadmill. Great job honey!!! I will tell my story on the next post. It's pretty long.....lol
The summer of 97 I went to football camp, to prepare for my senior year. After the first practice on my way back to the dorms to shower, I was struck by a car doing 45 mph. At that time I was 135lbs (yes I know that's not much. But I'm only 5'6"). I ended up with a compound fracture of both bones in my lower leg a concussion for 2 months and a bunch of road rash. They put in a steel rod and some screws in my leg. Got very depressed and started smoking cigarettes. I gave up my favorite thing which was running cuz my knee and ankle couldn't really take the pain. But anyways.....enough with the depressing part of this! November 2010 Stacey's sister gave us her treadmill. I thought to myself "ya right this is gonna get use.....lol". So we went to Temptations for the first time in feb 2011. After all the fun we had, most shouldn't be mentioned....lol! I decided I no longer wanted to be 195lbs and was changing my ways. I quit smoking cold turkey after smoking for 13 years and said HELLO to the treadmill and started eating a whole lot better. So I started slow. About 3.5 mph for 30 min. After a week I was ready to start jogging and cranked it up to 5.5 mph for 15-20 min. And so on and so on..... These days I change things up every now and again. But one thing doesn't change, I run for 20-25 minutes about 6 days a week at 7.5-8.5 mph. Needless to say, but I feel better now than I ever have in my life!!! Down to 143 lbs and no more love handles. And the best part is that I am motivation for my beautiful wife and our kids to GET, BE and STAY HEALTHY!!! Thanks everyone for listening.... Sorry if I bored anyone! But yes it felt good to tell Chris
way to go!! not boring at all. your wife is very lucky to have a det. hubby!! mine likes the gym too. it really helps to be able to do it together.
Welcome to the thread Chris, I started this a while ago for support and its a great place to chat about this battle. lots of great info on here.. and of course the occasional bitch and moan.. hahah!! your story is awesome and inspirational, well done.. thanks for the post.. cheers!
Thanks Chris. My thought are that having a immobilized leg will just make me gain weight so I am gonna continue to excercise as it makes me feel better, makes my knee feel better and keeps me from being a big fat and wrecking my knee even further. Yes I have to be careful but, I know excercise has way more benefits that out weight the chance of hurting it further. I will be seeing my other dr next week. Tell the wife congrats. I really wish I could run again.
Wow I had a rough weekend, drinking. Lol I was so hung over Satruday. Today I got the work out in and it is time to start kicking my ass. Time to start tanning too.
