About tipping, is there anybody you are NOT allowed to tip? Specifically, the front desk workers? I have heard about them getting in trouble or even fired if they accept tips, but I'm not sure if it is true.
i'll accept a tip if you throw it my way....but no really the front desk have been known to accept tips. I know this for a fact. But you need to be discret about it as this can be taken as a bribe for a better room. Don't want anyone to get in trouble !!
Usually no, unless they have rooms available . They have nice public washrooms you can change in and go swim and eat.
"Any money is good money" is what I got out of all those answers! Thanks everyone, for the suggestions. ~Jo
Most times if you pay in dollars you will get your change in pesos, Buy a tee shirt with a $50.00 or a candy bar with a $20.00 and I have enough pesos for the week and don't have to mess with going to the exchange.
For Canadians: Just received my e-ticket yesterday. In the documentation there was a notice which stated the following: "Pls note that the Mexican Gov't has put in place a new rule that applies to the exchange of US $ to Mexican Pesos. This new rule applies to money exchanged in banks & in currency exchange offices only & does not apply to withdrawals made from automated tellers (ATM's) or to purchases & transactions made with credit cards or debit cards. It is possible that certain hotels or businesses may refuse the payments made with US $ in cash, therefore, we recommend that clients carry a credit card, debit card and or Mexican Pesos and/or Cdn $ For more info, consult Foreign Affairs & International Trade of Canada at: www.voyage.gc.ca/countries_pay/report_rapport-eng.asp?id=184000
I usually take mostly pesos anyway, save the US dollars for duty free and excursions mostly as I found most other places ie. shops and taxis gave a better rate when using pesos.
I agree with you. I've also been use to taking US $ for tips etc. This was something new so thought I'd post just in case someone wants to check out the site.
