I get up around sunrise and read by the pool and on the beach beds when noone is there...then later I'm in the pool the whole time. I guess I'd make a great towel bitch, but I never do it!
The event becoming more common in Europe now (encouraged be the Inbetweeners movie) is for some of us Brits to throw towels in the pool. I havent got the balls to do that And wouldnt like a wet towel slap or a punch in the face LOL
I love seeing the phrase "towel bitch" as I too am called that. And saving about 6-8 chairs for 20-25 people is plenty.
Although I too spend most of my time in the pool, I do find it rather annoying (and rude) when people monopolize chairs without using them. Last week was a little chilly, and it would have been nice to soak up some sun to warm up. Unfortunately though, few people were in the pool. And few were in chairs. But, ALL chairs were covered with towels and their owners were nowhere to be found. My advice, no need to get up early to reserve a chair. You will not spend much time in it. But if anyone in your group thinks they may want to catch a few rays (out of the pool), then just get one chair between all of you. There were four of us and we never took more than one chair. There are also several chairs and sun beds on the beach, which is just stone's throw away.
With the size of our group 1 chair won't cut it, heck even with the saved ones we are short and sharing. Except for lunch, our chairs are generally in use. The only time I have had a beach chair is the ones I have dragged up to the pool. lol
I've moved a plain towel so I could sit on a chair that was empty all day. Someone suddenly appeared and said it was their chair, and I just asked if I could use it for a bit unless they needed it - and they said "oh, that's fine." Everyone's happy. And if you're pissed that someone moved your towel in a chair you're not using - piss off. Or use it.
Catherine and I had bright orange t-shirts (cancuncare orange) made up with the word 'Reserved CJ' and 'Reserved DJ' put on them - rather than using towels to hold chairs. Seemed like a good idea at the time, but now I am wondering if it will offend anyone to be so blatantly reserving 2 chairs by the pool. Seemed like a fun idea at the time -especially the orange cancuncare color. Would love others honest thoughts on this. Thanks.
We use t shirts too, as long as your actually using them there should be no problem. The only reason people do this is cause they don,t enforce the rule they actual have posted about not reserving chairs/ loungers . Ive seen many a chair vacant till 1,2,or even later in the afternoon, only to see a hung over person go to the chair drop there bag off jump in the water till 6 and not even use it,,??? So by not enforcing the rule if you want a chair you got to get up @ 6 to get one.,make sense?,,whereas there would be lots of loungers if they did enforce, you need just look around the pool at any given time half the loungers are empty.
It gets pretty cut-throat reserving chairs. I "reserved" some chairs at about 4am one morning with our personal beach towels. Coming back out at 9am, they were gone. So I wouldn't recommend leaving anything you can't part with. Plus, it is irritating when people leave some crap on the best chairs by the pool, and the chair is never actually used by a human being. Personally, I think the T-shirt idea is a bit over the top. Just my opinion though.
