Best ting to do if you only drink Captain, put a bottle in your checked bag or pick one up at the airport duty free shop. We have done both ways.
That's a great idea, didn't think of it. You can shop at the duty free in Cancun on arrival. Else I'll stop in at Martin's (across from Walmart) in playa del carmen while visiting some friends.
I've never bought booze at the duty free shop, but don't you have to buy it as you are leaving the country? So if you bought it in Cancun, it would be on your way back home? I'm not sure, but this is how I thought it works.

You are correct. I just checked with duty free cancunairport and I quote: "These stores are independent from the airport and did not provide contact information. They are located in all the departure terminals. It is not possible to access these stores upon arrival. Duty Free Shops are available at departures only." I thought mexico was different

Duty Free Shops are available at departures only." I assume the duty free shop is after you pass thru security? Couldn't you pick it up at the airport in Canada and keep it in your carry on bag?
I know there's a liquer store as soon as you pick up you luggage in the Cancun Airport, but have never checked their prices...
