With considerable trepidation, I booked a solo week at TTR Cancun...my first holiday alone EVER. I then spent a lot of time of these boards getting to know the Chaos Crew, who makes their annual foray to TTR in early December. I arrived at the resort at about 3:30 p.m. on the Saturday, and after giving myself an “I can do this” pep talk in my room, I put on my bikini and made what I later learned was the classic Chaos-Crew-newbie beeline to the corner of the sexy pool where Jesse, Lorenzo and Karen can always be found. They set me up with a Cancuncare orange wristband right away. Also quickly met up with some other people from CCC, and had my first dip in the pool and a wet pussy shot. Then dinner with two CCC friends. Had been up since 3:30 a.m., and wasn’t feeling brave enough for Paty-O’s, so I went to bed at 11 p.m. that first night feeling a bit adrift and wondering if perhaps I wasn’t outgoing enough to travel alone. The next day was Steve’s legendary Boobs Cruise, and by the end of the day, I had 40 new friends and felt much more in the swing of things. I learned several valuable lessons on the boat, like (1) how to give and receive whipped cream body shots (2) how to stay vertical after a day of drinking while singing and dancing to “Y.M.C.A.” on a rocking boat (3) it is futile it is to refuse to give up your bikini top to Chinos. Early to bed that night...again I didn’t make it to Paty-O’s. The best part of the day, though, was meeting my three “big brothers” from Alberta: Craig, Claudio and Rene, who immediately became my closest companions and official bodyguards/cock-blockers for the rest of trip. Love you guys! xo On the 28th, I spent 3 hours playing beach volleyball, as I did every day for the rest of the trip cuz that’s my thang when on vacation. A large group from the resort headed to Coco Bongo that night. Hands down the highlight of my trip and not to be missed. I spent 4 straight hours shaking my stuff on the bar in 5-inch heels (when I wasn’t dancing on the stage, that is!). Finally made it to Paty-O’s for some dancing for “Back to School Night” on the 29th in my naughty schoolgirl outfit. I highly recommend participating in the theme nights to break the ice and get to know more people. Arrange some theme nights thru this forum with the people who will be there when you are, as the only real theme night at the resort is lingerie Night...nothing much happens on White Night. Wednesday night was a dead loss after two late nights in a row (I am a miserable failure at siesta-ing), and I didn’t even put on the much-hyped “Show Off” dress from WickedTemptations.com which was supposed to be my “Dress to Impress” theme night outfit. I just couldn’t muster the energy to crowbar myself into that damn thing, and I went to bed after dinner. Thursday was lingerie night, and another “I can do this” pep talk was required before I could leave the room in my skivvies. The casino night was great fun, although you have to get there early, as the gaming only lasts for 40 minutes or so and you won’t get a chance to play if you are not one of the first ones at the tables. Then Craig convinced me to go up on stage with 9 other ladies for what he told me was just a walk across the stage for a “fashion show”, but which in actuality entailed a solo dance by each gal, followed by a pole dancing exhibition by 4 of the 10, me being elected as one of them. Nothing like a little pole dancing in your gonchies, and peeling off your top while you’re at it, to strip away the last of your inhibitions and make you forget that you lead a respectable life at home. Afterwards, I didn’t give a second thought to hanging out in Paty-O’s in my lingerie until 3 a.m. This girl had come a long way since touching down at TTR 5 days earlier! Friday was my last day, and a small group of us returned to Coco Bongo for another absolutely fabulous night. Then back to Paty-O’s for a legendary burger at 4:30 in the morning, then 3 hours of sleep before getting up to head back to Canada. So what did I learn? That TTR is for single gals too, even if they are travelling alone. Although I would not have felt nearly as comfortable without my 3 Alberta guys watching my back 24/7. I wasn’t there to hook up, but there is a lot of opportunity for women to do that, as single women are outnumbered by single men. I did notice that people who are introverted struggle a bit at TTR, so be prepared to get out there and meet people if you are by yourself, even if you have to push yourself to do it. You’ll be surprised how willing everyone is to allow you to join right in with them if you are a fun, friendly person. And if you are a woman travelling alone, making friends is the best way to ward off the “creepers”, as your friends will make sure the single guys don’t push the envelope too much. As far as general comments on the resort, IMO the food was good and sometimes very good, and I come from a city full of great restaurants, so I’m at a loss to understand why people complain on CCC & TripAdvisor.com about the food. The Asian and Italian restaurants were especially good. The alcohol is substandard, but that’s true for every all-inclusive resort except the high-end ones. You get what you pay for, so quit yer whining. The whole resort was very clean and well-maintained, and there were no bugs or musty odours in my room. The pillows ARE hard as rock, so if you have room in your suitcase, bring your own. I truly have nothing negative to say about the resort, and all the guests were so friendly, especially the Chaos Crew. Thanks so much to everyone in the Crew, both repeaters and newbies, for making me feel welcome. I laughed my ass off the whole week and I still haven't fully regained my voice. Will I come back to TTR? What do YOU think?
