So, I kindof recall seeing somewhere that it's about impossible to get Hershey's Chocolate in Cancun. I've been saving my ones (rather than spending them at the local Jiggle Joint) for tipping. But since I live 10 minutes from Hershey, I thought I might buy and freeze some chocolate to bring for the staff in addition to $ for tipping (maybe I'll get a free shot of tequilla; haha). Any ideas / suggestions? 8 DAYS and counting!!Wooohooo!

I do this too! And especially near Halloween, we always buy a couple big bags of mixed chocolate bars (smarties, twix, mars, etc) and leave it for the maid with $5 everyday.

Honestly, I could never understand the leaving chocolate thing. Go to any corner store in Cancun and there are lots of chocolate bars etc. I think staff need the monetary tips more importantly. I think it's a bit different in the Dominican and Cuba?

I've brought a bit a couple times. I know they have the usual assortment there but I will give the maids something to give their kids as a special treat since its a bit different than what they have at home

Yeah, it was a huge hit in Cuba. We also brought them school supplies, nair polish, hair accessories, make up, etc. when we were there. The maids left us little notes each day with the fancy towels letting us know how much they appreciated it.

In Mexico, we just did the chocolate and money thing for tips to the maids and money to everyone else. I thought it went over well... who doesn't love chocolate?

We always go to Aldie's and buy their large Austrian Choc. Bars. Give to maids daily plus a few bucks tip too.
Just another cheap but very welcomed way of saying thank you to a very underpaid employee!!

Thanks for the info! I'll bring some just for the heck of it. A little extra something, ya know!
