Very good news about Rina weakening! Hope it continues to do so. Again Steve thank you for keeping us updated. Looking forward to meeing everyone Monday! Laura and Will
So glad to hear the storm isn't going to be as bad as predicted earlier! Wouldn't wish that on anyone. I looked up some stuff on Wilma in 2005 and that sounded so awful, especially what it did to the beaches and that they just got a lot of that fixed recently! Also glad to hear the staff is boarding up early this time, should save everyone from slipping around like we did weekend before last with the other storm! They didn't board up until 24 hours after it got really bad, and by then everything was soaking wet! I hope the indoor festivities are super fun and dry (other than what you want to be wet - hehehe)!!
hello!! Well, just went out and bought the chocolate flavored whipped creme, getting the "pumpkin' paint we discussed tomorrow! All packed and just waiting for Sat. Hope all is well! See you at the pool!! we get in at 11:30am!!:flash::musik026::beer4:
We also get in around 11:00 Sat. after rescheduling. Things are starting to look up!!!! We'll look for you at the pool.
We will pick something to drink at the airport. Sounds like a great party. See you all this weekend Rick and Shelley\Ontario Canada
Even better news!! John and Kathy since KennJoyce have cancelled and we were originally going to leave TTR on 11/1/11 with them for Desire we have changed our plans and will be staying our full trip at TTR until 11/3/11!! Also I assume everyone that was originally booked for the boobz cruise will still be going on the 31st. As far as the Halloween costume party at TTR no biggy really anyhow but starts later and we will get back from the BOOBZ cruize around 5:30. Steve knows about the costume party and what is going on and will make sure we are back promptly!! It will be one hell of a POST RINA PARTY and one hell of a PRE HALLOWEEN TTR PARTY!! It will one that won't want to be missed I promise!! Tina
I know that you guys will fully enjoy your shortened vacation... give Steve and Chinos a hug for us! Next April can't come soon enough for us. We'll be there in spirit with you!
12:36am Thursday and all is quiet. No wind and no rain at the moment. The hurricane is still predicted as a Cat 1, but may well weaken to Tropical Storm status before arrival. The track has barely changed over the last few days and as the circles of error get smaller it's becoming more certain that Rina will come very close to us. From reading various weather sites it seems that one of the main theories for the weakening storm is its slow movement. Hurricanes need warm water to intensify, waters are warm at 28C or so but since Rina is only moving at 5mph she has been churning up the ocean bringing cooler water to the surface, plus dumping a ton of rain and that has meant that the water temps below her have lowered enough to inhibit intensification. This has the reverse effect of actually weakening her. This is likely to continue unless she speeds up to something like 10-12mph, in which case she could get stronger again. But being so close to landfall even if she does speed up and intensify it wont be by much. The airport has remained open all day. Tourists have been evacuated from Isla Mujeres but not from mainland Cancun, and I dont expect them to be. Some reports of Cancun hotels (not TTR at this time as far as I know) imposing a room curfew tomorrow night and stopping serving alcohol tomorrow. Storm surge is predicted to be +2 to 4 feet now which should mean that the ocean will not inundate the pool areas at TTR (but I bet the Chinese restaurant will get smashed up again! as it always does). It's looking increasingly likely that Rina will not be a huge deal, plenty of wind and rain to come for sure but little in the way of serious damage and disruption. If you have flights late Friday onwards my current advice would be not to cancel. I'll be online tomorrow evening as Hurricane Rina approaches and will update as things happen, for as long as the power holds out. It's normal that we lose electricity when a big storm arrives so I may get cut short. It's dark right now, but in the morning, remember you can always see the current weather conditions at: Cancun Live Webcam - Live Webcam in Cancun which is another one of my websites. Here's the latest prediction:
