Here's another great post from a Hurricane Wilma veteran that you may have missed because it was posted on another thread:

    Latest update:

The hurricane is still a Category 2, just 1 mph short of being upgraded to a Category 3. The prediction is it will reach cat 3 tomorrow but then drop back down to a Category 2 before it reaches us.

The path has not really changed, it still shows Rina moving up the length of the Riviera Maya coast, before heading out north east once it reaches Cancun.

It should be noted that each circle means that the storm could be anywhere within that circle on the given date and time. The dots are just the centre of the circle. But as Rina approaches us the circle gets smaller which means the margin of error becomes smaller.

Right now the centre of the circle is showing a direct hit on Cancun (8pm Thurs). If that happens as a Cat 2 then we can expect sustained winds of around 100mph. Plus a storm surge of 7 feet. I'm not sure of the difference in height between the ocean and the pool and ground floor rooms, but I'd guess it is less than 7 feet, maybe 4 or 5. This means that if we have a direct hit the sexy pool and ground floor rooms will be inundated with sea water.

I have been through 7 or 8 hurricanes, most of them have been near misses and had little impact. One (Wilma, Oct 2005) partially destroyed Cancun and it took 6 months for Cancun to fully recover. I do not think Rina will be as devastating as Wilma but she should not be underestimated. If you are planning to travel soon, (Wed, Thurs, Fri) my advice is to cancel or re-arrange if you can. If you can't, still think twice about traveling.

    In Cancun:

Current weather is dry and not windy at all. Overcast but warm and still and no rain.

Current weather conditions can be seen on the live webcam which updates every few seconds and will last until it blows down at:
Cancun Live Webcam - Live Webcam in Cancun

"Ley Seca" (Dry Law) will be enacted tomorrow. This means that no alcohol can be sold, anywhere. It should not affect drinks service in hotels but may affect the night clubs and bars.

All schools have been cancelled until further notice.

There is no mandatory evacuation order of hotels at this time.

The "Fuck You Rina" Boobs Cruise with me and Chinos is still scheduled for Monday! Post hurricane weather is usually great!

Steve, thanks for your info concerning Rina. Some 700 Russian will be (or will not?) coming to Cancun on two jumbos from Transaero and Aeroflot airlines opening their season on Oct 30 & 31. Will be myself on a first plane. Hope we will be allowed to take off from Moscow Oct 30. I will be closely following this forum since it is the only reliable source. Just found our about your cruise on 31st. Sounds great! Still hope we'll be around on Sunday-Monday.

Just saw on the news that they are evacuating more people in Cancun and that it is almost impossible to get a flight out. Speculation that it may be as bad as Hurricane Wilma. Will most likely make landfall tomorrow morning.

    The big blow...

Steve - Why don't you get TTR to sponsor "The Big Blow" which will collect everyone in the hotel zone for a trip to Punta Nizuc at a predetermined time, like noon tomorrow. At the stroke of 12:00 everyone will face south and just blow as hard as possible thereby causing Rina to turn around and go to Honduras.

Politicians should be especially encouraged as they can really BLOW. :ernaehrung005:
