We're looking to make a last minute trip to the resort for our first time and had a few questions: Rooms: I've seen various reviews of this resort mention that it is too loud and/or smells in certain rooms. While we can still party from time to time like we're back in college...when we sleep, we like to sleep! and when we do... um, hmmmm.... other things.... we'd like it not to be nasty. Also saw various reviews mention bugs...isolated issues? Is there a better room type to avoid these issues? While the Jacuzzi rooms are more expensive than the Ocean View rooms are they cleaner? quieter? Internet: I've read through the thread on the first page of the forum about Internet being better in certain sections. Do the Jacuzzi rooms happen to fall into these sections? Ocean View? Restaurants/Activities: Are there any limitations to any of the various hotel amenities for non time share owners? Certain restaurants, pools, activities, etc? Beach: Some of the bad reviews seem to talk about the water at this section of the beach being nasty while I've read many reports of people taking midnight dips... what's the truth? I think those are probably our main items that we wanted to clear up before booking. Thanks for any assistance you can provide and if you're planning on visiting from 7/28-8/4 we look forward to meeting you! Jamie & Rachel
it has been two years since we have been so I am going to let someone else chime in, but if you don't I will answer to the best of my ability I can promise you this you will have a blast. It truely was the most fun I have ever had on vacation (as an adult)
Even though it's been FOUR years for me to get back, I'll attempt to answer you. See above in your quote, preceded by >>> Some people have budgetary issues that keep them from going back every years. My budgetary issues are three males, ages 19, 16 and 16! LOL
The rooms do tend to have a musty smell but that is just from the humidity and I think you will find that in most resorts. As far as bugs go we have never had a problem whatsoever. We have never stayed in a jacuzzi room so cant comment on those. We like to stay near Patyos which yes it is very lous until sometimes 5am so if noise bothers you those are not the rooms for you. It is very easy to ask for a room away from patyos in which you will not be bothered by the loud bar noise. Cant comment on the internet case never used it. The only advantages from what Ive seen to the premier members is a special area on the beach with beds and a private bar and i know they get to call for their reswtuarant reservations. The beach is gorgeous and well kept, however it is not the nicest place to swim. There is alot of seaweed but the staff does a great job of keeping the beach clean and looking fabulous. That about covers all I know of your questions!!! haha....IF you do go on the 28th we will see you there, we are there from the 28th to the 2nd. Enjoy!!!!! CHEERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We were there three weeks ago, so I can promise you that what everyone has said above is accurate. We called before arrival and asked for a quiet room, and they honored that when we checked in. It was just a plain room, no jacuzzi or anything, on the outside edge of the resort--but we had a view of the ocean from our balcony (Building 57). Our room didn't have any musty smell--but you honestly can't escape that in the tropics. (I always tuck dryer sheets in the suitcase to keep the clothes from getting musty. Those little silicone packets you get in boxes sometimes can help, too). As for bugs...yeah, they get some big ones in the tropics. No mosquitos, though, and no signs of bedbugs. The beach was fine for walking and had some awesome beach beds for lounging. The pool is really the place to be for hanging out and for activities, so I didn't miss swimming in the ocean at all. Just keep in mind that this is a different type of resort--I can't imagine you'd come here to bliss out on the beach and be pampered--there are lots of other places to do that. TTR's the kind of place you come to shed your inhibitions and party, so the priorities are a little different. If your main priority is to have fun, this is definitely the right resort!
Big burn rate right now with one in college and two headed there shortly ... whee! But, I'd call this an investment in happiness that pays off big!
Fortunately in Georgia, the lottery pays tuition for A and B students, so only had room and board to deal with.
Thanks for the info everyone! How much cash do you typically take with you when you go to cover tips, offsite restaurants/bars, etc? I imagine I'd want an airport transfer and would like to take a tour of Chichen itza. Possibly the Boobs Cruise. Maybe a trip or two to an offsite restaurant/bar. Do you convert your currency before you leave the states?
