Glad to see you avoided Curves. It's a crap workout that only works the concentric motion of the muscles. Muscle is built in both eccentric and concentric motiions. Did you have sugery yet?

They have events that don't involve running.....where you're still biking and swimming. There are events that are only swimming or biking. There are races that are only biking and running.

The thing is, I can burn 1,500 calories on a Saturday morning bike ride. Running, it would take a 1/2 marathon to do that. The diff. in stress on the body is IMMENSE.

I was just making a suggestion (re: the triathlon). Here, there are running clubs; cycling clubs and swimming clubs. The benefits of the cross-training is what I'm really suggesting. The "sign up for" comment was due to that being what it took to get me into the sport. I don't do well, when I don't have something I'm signed up for (like now!). I could stand to lose 10#'s, currently.

    Good luck to all.

I completely get what you're saying about being "signed up" for something!! It helps me as well. Several years ago signed up for a marathon to help raised money for Leukemia & Lymphoma society with the intent of using the training to get in shape....unfortunately didn't really lose weight while training but I did complete the entire 26.2miles and got my Mickey Mouse Medal for proof!! Actually in much better shape now than I was then & have considered doing another. For now, I join the challenges my gym offers...gives me a team for motivational support and accountability - LOVE IT!!

(I'm kinda scared of bicycle seats or I might consider a tri!)

    Respect!

I did my 1/2 mary in around 1:50, last fall. Not fast by most standards. But, the full never crossed my mind.

    Congratulations.

getting excited!! down to 140 it seems to be on the move finally!! 10 to go by sept. happy that it is just happening. i watched a tv program on curves awhile back, and ya it seemed a little tame. i think its designed more for way out of shape people, but a good starting point. keep up the good work. its hell for us ladies.

Thanks! We won't even discuss my time......

But I learned alot about myself that day - my body is capable of more then I give it credit for, the memory of loved ones can fuel determination, & I am not a quitter in life!

when i was in the service years ago, you can really learn alot about just how much you and your body can take. i remember at first running for so long, climbing ect. that you really feel like puking!! then the next day you do it all over again. but by the 2nd week it seems pretty easy and so forth. our bodies really are remarkable mach. feed them right and they work hard for you.
