Hi there. First time posting here. :)

I am moving to area in a few months and bringing along my two cats. I was wondering where people buy their pet food. I currently give my cats Science Diet and on a trip last month, I saw a small 8 lb bag at a mall cost about $25. :icon_eek:

    Thanks!

Most big brand foods like Pedigree and Beneful can be found at any supermarket fairly cheap. Not sure what brands are used for cats, but I have seen several.

If you're looking for better quality, local pet stores have several options but they can get quite expensive. ($15 a bag and up)

Thanks for the response. I may have to end up giving them supermarket food if it's too expensive for the better quality.

Curiosa: Do your cats like fresh/raw fish?

You could easily find tons of good quality and cheap fish for them, IF they like it that is. :)

Dont have cats at the moment, but do have a puppy that had to switch to Royal Canine Vet. Diet and its 349 pesos for a measly 2.5 kgs....

The two adult dogs get by perfectly on Kirkland´s "Lamb, rice and vegs."

A friend of mine buys his cat-food at Costco, but cant remember the brand... Will ask him asap. Its working great and the cat loves the food, so cant be all that bad ;)

(Hes a stray that was in really bad shape, but now hes doing great.)

We feed our girls Kirkland brand...we switch it up between the chicken and rice and lamb and rice...they like the variety. Its made by Diamond which is the only thing that I ever fed to my Rotties back home when we raised them.

You know...I had actually joked about giving them fresh fish. I think they would actually enjoy it as I have given them bits in the past.

Royal Canine is a good brand and wowzers! That is expensive but seems to be the price for quality food there. I may have to start cooking for my kitties. Thanks for the info on Costco. I'll have to check them out when I get there.

Thanks! Sounds like I will definitely be checking out Costco when I get there. I really appreciate the responses. :)

I've got three kitties, they get Purina Cat Chow from the supermarket (about 56 pesos for a 1.5 kg bag) as I just can't swing the high quality prices, especially with three of them. I cooked for them when they were kittens, but even that got expensive.

The supermarkets carry Whiskas and Purina brands always (dry and wet).

    Good luck and welcome!

Edited to add....I don't get the Costco bags as I found they got "buggy" if they didn't get through it fast enough and I cannot lift those giant sizes. :D

@Curiosa: I just came back from Costco and remembered that you asked about cat-food.

Well, the Purina Cat Chow costs 209 pesos and its a whooping 9kg´s(dont know pounds, sorry..) of food :)

I usually buy a big bag of litter for my friends cat, but they didnt have it today.

    Hope this helps.

Edit: CancunCanuck mentions, if the big bag is kept for too long, it can go bad. An idea is to buy some good quality, sealable plastic tubs.

@ rawkus: Thank you kindly for remembering me! At least I have some ballpark figure of what to expect. I appreciate it!
