Can anyone recommend a good Vet when it comes to skin issues?

The new stray-puppy is going nuts, scratching, itching etc.

Any advice asap would be great!!

(Have good vets for the dogs, but they dont really deal with the skin issues...)

You have a vet who doesn't deal with skin issues? Weird, in Cancun sarna is a HUGE issue, so are garrapatas, thought all vets would be on board. Anywhoooooo. :)

I have taken my animals to Pet's Veternaria as long as I have lived here with no complaints. They do estetica too and treatments for garrapatas etc.. They are in the plaza with Comercial Mexicana across from the bus station. Some English spoken and I believe at least one of the vets was educated in the states if I am not mistaken. Haven't had any skin issues (well, except for a recent abscess) but I am sure they could help you out. Good luck with pobre little perrito!

CC: Yeah, I know its sounds strange... The vets we use/are using, are great with everything, except skin stuff...:(

Its not garrapatas, and it doesnt look like sarna at all(have had puppies with sarna here before, both mild cases and severe..)

Ill try the one you recommended, thanks.

Ps. I think there is(was?) an older gentleman that had some certificates from Texas or similar... My friend goes to that vet.

    Thanks!

    More advise is welcomed :)

Yes, the oldest man in Cancun perhaps, haha, but he's good with the animals. Pretty sure he went to Texas A & M if I remember the certificates on the walls correctly. :D

By the by, Rescate Malix is a great organization in Cancun for all things animal, they do rescues, post lost and found animals and answer questions like these. They are a very active group on Facebook and do wonderful work. Anyone who lives here and loves animals should join their page and help with reunions, etc.. I've seen them post pictures of lost dogs and have people say "Hey, he's in my neighbourhood right now, I'll get him!" or vice versa "I found this dog, anyone know his owners?" and have a response pretty quick. Nice community. :)

Rescate Malix are great! Eddie and Angie are incredible, thats for sure. Have helped out with 3(4?) of the last spay/neuter clinics here in CUN.

First, what are you feeding your puppy? Puppies don't usually have allergies. Normally, allergies manifest during adulthood. Make sure he doesn't have fleas...I know that sounds basic but it can cause pruritis and is the number one cause of itching. Second, make sure the food you feed contains a healthy amount of Omega 3's. Look for fish, fish meal or flax on the ingredient panel. Third, bath him frequently in case it is a contact dermatitis. Hope this helps. :)

    USA Girl:

I have tried 4 different foods, including two that are "allergy foods", just to exclude possible food allergy. No results on that one :(

Done both tick/flea baths and also put a Frontline - nothing.

Now I bathe him with a dermatology shampoo(the brand is Virbac), that has oatmeal.

Im sure some skin-scrapes(is that how you say it?) should reveal some results.

Will look into the Omega 3-thing. Might get some supplements for the little bugger :)

Thanks for the advices - much appreciated. :)

I also used the oldest living vet in Cancun. His son also works there. I loved them (I mean, they picked Lulu up at my house when she got fixed because we didn't have a car and did house calls for vaccinations) but remember that they had some sketchy business from the past. I remember googling it, but now don't remember their names.

You can try Doctor Navarro Mendoza from Grupo Veterinario "La Mercantil" at Kohunlich #30, Fracc. San Angel, SM 50 (across the street from X-B Burger). The phone number is 848-30-12.
