Reading this thread made me recall how difficult it is to identify a biological agent. It is likely that a cause will never be known but it seems like there are alot of solutions. :)

I know there is a bad stomach flu going around my kids' schools. It's been spreading like wildfire. Hopefully that's all it was at Temptation. I drink vodka water and a splash of cranberry juice (on ice) and lots of beer and shots, and i've never been sick there once in all our trips. I've lost track of how many trips we've been there, between 9-12 times?... I guess i'll find out when we get there April 21st. I can't wait! Hoping for another amazing trip!

we just got back last night... and matt was the one sick :( definitely puts a damper on the trip, especially a short trip!

we have talked thru everything it could have been... but i dont think its flu, as i didn't get sick (not with that, anyways), and we swapped spit plenty of times! We both drank the water in bottles as well as the ice water served at all the restaurants. We both drank the slushy drinks from the bars, brushed our teeth with sink water, etc. The symptoms fit montezuma's revenge perfectly.

Matt started feeling it on our 3rd full day there ~on the booze cruise day, no less =( ~ and it got worse for 24 hours, before we called the doctor. ($100usd just for the visit by him) He was put on Cipro and buscapina, and started feeling better a few hours later... BUT, is STILL isn't back to normal. It seems to come and go in waves for him, poor thing. He saw his doc today and she extended the antibiotic a few more days.

Here is the ONLY thing i can think of, that is different between him and me:
I was more nervous over the whole thing, and have been taking Probiotics for the last month-ish, and continued while there. I take 2 a day. I had read on here somewhere of someone doing that, and they hadn't had any problems while there, so i started, too. And, as a side note, its ME that has the weak stomach! Matt has an iron stomach, so i never expected him to get sick.

I say start taking probiotics TODAY, and take 2 a day (or maximum dose on package) and take them throughout your trip there. It may or may not help, but it definitely won't hurt! AND, i'd call your doc to get a script for an antibiotic to take with you just in case... and take it at the FIRST sign of pain/symptoms.

you can get the probiotics at wally world or any drugstore by the vitamins.

oh, and just cuz they 'filter' the water on the resort, and serve the good water in glasses, doesn't mean they cook or wash the food with that filterd/bottled water. I didn't eat any salads, only fruit that had been peeled (altho i did forget and eat alot of strawberries, too), and cooked items. He drank coffee, and i didn't, but that's really the only big difference between our diets i think.

who knows... good luck! and get the probiotics! :) I still want to go back and do it right this time!!

There is only 1 thing we all have in common......we were all in the pool. One of the first days I was there, I did notice a 3-4 inch wide line of slime on top of the water around the edge of the pool. Who knows..

I truthfully felt right in line with you. The build up in the pool gets to be pretty....plentiful, and if you get a mouthful or whatever, I can only imagine what you are ingesting. The pool doesn't smell of strong chlorine, so who knows what is used to disinfect, if anything....

I will try and read the docs writing. In the shot was:

    Gentamicina 80
    Butilitioscina
    Difonidoz

    RX was for:

Akabar (2 tabs every 6 hrs x 3 days) Antibiotic
Vontrol (1 tab every 6 hrs) for Nausea
Boscapina Compositum (1 tab every 6 hrs) for Pain

I didn't fill the pain RX. I didn't feel that the nausea pill did much.

    Hope that helps!

I wasn't in the pool much before I got sick but I guess it could have been that. I don't think it could have been a bug because I was only there for a little over 24 hours before getting sick and I recovered too fast. Plus a virus wouldn't respond to antibiotics. I think it has to be bacteria related.

    It was great meeting you.
