Really you have to quit bailing out big business every time they create a new risky investment class. You can't keep spending next years social security to pay this years bills either.

There is a small but vocal and growing minority that is calling for the IMF to drop the greenback in favour an international standard. The day it happens there will be an instantaneous currency devaluation here north of 40%.

You think houses are worth peanuts now just imagine!!

Don't think so. Why should the people that make the most have to pay to support the rest? Is the system fair? Hell no. Does the government make hand outs too easy.. yes. Do the people that make the most money in this country pay for that ... yes. And just because someone worked hard their entire life, that does not mean they are owed something. Would it be nice, certainly. The title of the thread should be more like screw the rich, support the downtrodden.

It isn't just in Canada. If you want to make a fortune, just open a Tim Horton's here in Buffalo. Average sales at Timmies here is about $1.6 million. That's a lot of donuts, coffee and sandwiches!

Tim finished his hockey career in Buffalo (though cut short dying in a car accident). I'm sure there are still some "old timers" that would be loyal to the name :)

I think initially that might have had an impact, but now there aren't a lot of folks who remember him playing. The chain has just become a integral part of the fabric of WNY, which kind of adds to our being Ontario South at times.

While on the subject of food in Canada. Another thing I missed while living there was a decent steak. Canadian beef, pork, chicken just doesnt taste as good. A local meat guy said it was due to Canadian meet not being corn fatened.
The processed meat was also really bad. I dont think Canucks know what a good hot dog is.
On the up side the garlic marble cheese from Safeway is awesome, and sadly not available in the states.

Them's fightin' words in Alberta...lol. Alberta prides itself on it's beef. I would think Ontario beef is corn fed though. Tons of corn grown there.

I'm not a big steak eater, myself. I prefer filet migon if I do eat it. One of the best I ever had was in a riverboat restaurant on the Kentucky side of the Ohio river, overlooking Cinci.

Personally, I would agree with you that US meat products are far superior.

I would consider myself a blue collar, lower middle class person, now going with that here are my thoughts:

Unions-they had thier time and place, but that time is over, they are nothing more now than a greedy business themselves and now these days they protect lazy workers who should get fired. I was in a union when I was working at a grocery store, I was told by at least two union reps that if I got fired for whatever reason they could not help, since then I have not liked unions. Years ago I worked at a factory, a union tried to come in but was voted to stay out by a 10-1 margin, during the vote I was 1 of 2 company reps

Big business-Up to a point you need to help them, because if they go under people lose jobs. That same factory I worked at went out of business 3 years after I left. They asked the unions to reduce thier peoples pay to help but the unions refused. Nationwide 65,000 people lost thier jobs. I do have to say there were many reasons they shut down.

Supporting the downtrouten(sp)-I have no problem helping out the less fortuneate but when it gets to the point people use programs forever and ever and not try to get out of using them then that is when I have a problem

Ta-Ta's: All men need to support causes for them since we love to look and feel them

I've never heard WNY referred to as Ontario South before...I love it. I'll have to use that one. :aktion025:
