So what's the deal, I read that they have WIFI in public areas...so that means not in our rooms?

Anyway take a Blackberry...what kind of data plan did you get...I am self employed so I can't be totally out of touch...

From all accounts, Wifi is very poor. $15 per day and poor signal.
Check with your provider about use in Mexico, the rates can new completely rediculous, of you don't have some kind of plan in place.

Make sure you are talking to someone that knows their plans very well. There really isn't much that can give you a decent rate in Mexico. Of you don't need to be in constant contact you can use a couple of computers masse check in for a reasonable price.

Isn't being totally out of touch the whole purpose for going on vacation?

We love Internet to check Facebook and emails but we look forward to unplugging for a while. We may check from time to time to make sure out pets are OK with whoever is watching them.

You can also look into purchasing a SIM card for a local provider.

I use to buy mine online because pay-as-you-go data plans were expensive the last few times I was down.

If you're making calls, I'd get a LD card as well. $20 buys you about 3 hours to the US or 2 hours to Canada.

If you don't need data, I'd recommend renting a phone. If you do need data, my advice would be Turn Push Off, only use Fetch.

We are self employed also. The wifi does suck in most of the hotel. I have a special antenna for my computer to pick up signals from long distances and it worked there but the connections are slow. My Blackberry worked fine for calls and shorter emails. I have verizon and switched over to the international plan for the time that we were there. It was something like 2-3 bucks a day. No biggie.
