    Witty:

I was kind of shocked by the post that you have created for various reasons and have followed this thread for awhile trying to get some questions answered and understand the facts and your point of view before I commented. I have still no understanding of your negative tone toward the resort itself.

Let me throw this out there right now. I am a newbie, have never been to Cancun or the TR. I have no connection or affiliation with any of the people on the website, or at the resort.

My wife and I were looking for a place to go on vacation during our spring break. We wanted to go to Vegas for a week, but thought during the middle of May we would rather be on the beach. So I researched. We too like nice beaches, relaxing atmosphere and stimulating discussions. I have two degrees, and am deciding on a third in addition to being a teacher (wife as well). However, after doing research, and asking multiple questions on this very website. We chose to try TTR over anything that Cancun or Cozumel had to offer. We knew we wanted to drink, not be bothered by children and basically have some time to let our hair down. We chose this place based on reading virtually every thread on this site as well as trip advisor.

Back to your comments: I researched your posts before this one and you kept commenting on "two single ladies looking to drink up and party down," without any mention of asking things like "how is the beach?" "what is the nicest beach in Cancun?" "Should I go to TTR if I want the beach to be a priority?" These are questions I asked, because they are important if that is what makes or breaks your vacation.

I also find it hard to believe "you were not there to hook up" and "annoyed" at those trying to get you to take off your top. You started advertising you being "single" and wanting to "drink" and "party" so why then be annoyed for the whole THEME of the resort?

Second, you say that you valued "food" as your #1 priority. Then why didnt you ask, or research about it. Surely you would find that "food" is not the #1 draw for an all-inclusive, adult only resort.

Third, the stimulating conversation you are describing I'm sure does not include "drinking up and partying down" or "2 single ladies from NYC"

I found your remarks to be a bit prude and childish, to which I would attribute all the harsh reactions.

With that being said, I did like the honesty of your report. It is refreshing to get an report on anything from a different POV. You could have worded it in a more professional tone which would have gained you credibility instead of harsh remarks. But you should have some sense of that being in marketing???...

All in all life is what you make it. You failed to do your research or ask any pertinent questions to your basic wants and needs. To me it sounds like sour grapes, but that's my perspective.

Next time do what I tell my students, ask more questions, find more answers. But above all I think you should really think about what you write and the tone that your writing demands. You will have a lot more success in the future.

I hope your next vacation is all you hope it to be.

    Best,

    Tom

Wow Tom that was brilliant. I mean you made your points real well. See most of us wouldn't of gotten offended weren't it for the condescending comments. i always appreciate someone else's opinions n i have said so in other unfavorable trip reports where i thanked people for their honestyn said that's what we want here. but i draw the line where on 2 seperate occasions she basically called people that go there stupid!!

Most of us would not have got offended if the report reflected the entire nature of the pre trip questions asked.

    Right on sis!

Sis, you are correct! We all go on vacation to get away from the pompous asses we have to deal with every day! I definately do not go there for the food or "sophisticated conversation"!! :musik026: I GO FOR THE FUN!!

I'd say it's time to end this thread and quit giving the sophisticated conversing, picky, foodie, party girl, who believes we are all brain dead any more attention. I'm quite sure were just feeding an overblown ego at this point.

    Hi all,

To be very clear, I did a lot of research and read many threads on this forum so most of my questions were answered before I went without having to post them--my own opinion just differed when we got there. I already knew when you had to make reservations for dinner, which pools were which, what the theme nights were, where you got your towels, what time you had to get up to reserve a chair by the pool, whether you could check in early, the wi-fi options, etc. This forum is an amazing resource and I read a lot of the threads so felt confident going in that I knew what was what. Some of you are trying to pin me down on specifics that are personally relative: I thought the food would be good because so many people posted that they loved it/it was awesome/ate at the same place every night it was so good/etc; when I personally experienced the food I had a vastly different opinion.

Some of you are disecting a report I intended to be very casual, as are the other reports on this board. Go back and look at them; some ramble, some are are just free flowing impressions, others provide no examples of the good or bad beyond an opinion.

Someone brought up that I should know better as I'm in marketing. Yes, if I knew a loosely connected group of people on a casual bulletin board site would be so invested in what I posted, then I might have included a thesis statement and cited my sources, rather than write a quick reference based on my personal experience.

To the person who read my prior posts and found them incongruent with what I'm posting now, when we booked we were looking to party and have fun. Still, even then, niether of us had any interest in getting laid and I don't think any of my posts once implied that we did. I was posting on the singles thread because we are single and that's where people were posting. I don't think I was PMing any of you asking about the hook up scene, or responded affirmatively to any of the PMs sent to me of that nature; I also wasn't chiming in on the swingers threads or flirtily asking how many XXXXXXs to put on my wrist band. We can party hard without having to get laid and don't find one necessary for the other. A lot of my posts about wanting to party were made before our plans to the ruins firmed, when I didn't know that you had to leave at the crack of dawn and that it would be an all day trip. It turned out we didn't party on Thursday night because we wanted to start Friday early, but we still had six or seven drinks a piece from the time we arrived until we went to bed. We partied all day on Saturday and put in some good sun time on Sunday.

As for the beach, I knew it wouldn't be stellar and knew to expect seaweed--just not that you couldn't swim because of it. To be clear for newbies reading this, there is about five yards of knee/waist high water, then a bed of endless, healthy seaweed--you cannot do more than splash around in the still shallows. Most threads talk about how the seaweed is raked up in the morning, without specifiying that you can't wade out beyond your waist. There is also a line of embedded seaweed at the water's edge that can't be raked up.

A lot of my earlier posts were made in the spirit of embracing Temptation and gearing up for a fun trip; once we got there the entire point of our trip (Chichen-Itza) really dominated our interaction with TTR. It was the highlight of our trip for the reasons I outlined in subsequent posts. When I booked TTR it seemed like a stellar choice that combined great food, good drinks and a beach w/ a mild seaweed problem. I enjoyed some parts of the trip and didn't enjoy others. You're writing as though I were sulking in the shade throughout my entire trip, which is far from the truth. We picked the theme of the hotel knowing it would be sexual and didn't bat an eye, to the poster who wrote about me being a prude and childish. I grew up on a hippie commune in Oregon where clothing was optional and have hosted sex toy parties annually since I turned 18--none of my discontent stemmed from the theme of the resort.

I definitely don't have sour grapes--i.e., I don't want what you got. I'm not asking for my money back or complaining about the cost (which was fair), or that I didn't make any lifelong friends, or that we had a room that was xyz when we wanted zyx... After going to TTR and having this conversation, it's very clear to me that what I value in a vacation is even more pronounced than before. We met some nice people, got hit on but weren't there to hook up, ate some mediocre food, saw some ruins and played in the pool. It wasn't the time of my life. One of the first responders said it best when they wrote "different horses for different courses".
