Boris, the guy who runs the dive concession at the resort, is a great guy and I have dove with him many times. He caters a trip to your experience level. His first question will be "are you a certified scuba diver?" It is a law that he can not take you on a dive over 30 feet deep without the proper training and international cert. If you have have never dove before or do not posess the proper documentation, you can take a "resort course" from him. His resort course takes a couple of hours out of your day and is held in the sports pool in the morning. He teaches some beginner scuba therory, hand signals, and explains the equipment. You'll spend a little time underwater and break for a bite of lunch. You'll jump in a pram and he will take you to a nearby reef that is alot of fun and has huge schools of fish and lots of corals. He will lead you every step of the way and dive by your groups side, He always has a support diver/photographer there also. All equipment is provided. The cost of the trip is not expensive. I think it's around 80 bucks all together. I have been certified for many years and it costs me $40 to tag along. I have dove this trip several times with my wife and several friends that arent certified. It's always fun. He can arrange a complete PADI certification scuba course for you also. It takes several days to complete and you'll need to stay sober and be serious about the course. It includes lots of class time amd book work, you'll do 4 open water dives and walk away with the card that lets you dive anywhere in the world. It usually costs abou 4 to 5 hundred to get certified. If you want to do more advanced dives while in Mexico, I suggest taking a course at home and obtaining your card prior to your stay. 2 of my more memorial dives out of TTR were thru a flooded underwater cave system an hour from the resort, OMG!! Truely magnificent. 2 years ago I did a 2 tank dive on a sunken, WWll, wrecked ship in 80 feet of water, that broke into 2 pieces during Hurricane Wilma, without wetsuits I might add... The water is warm and the visibility is amazing. I highly suggest going at least once during your stay.
No thanks! THANK YOU for such a detailed response! I have never been; Steve is PADI certified, so maybe the short lesson in the pool might be the way to go.
No problem. Do the resort course and take the shallow dive. The fish pics were taken out there. It's well worth the cost.... and you can drink all night the night before. Have Fun!!!! Brad
i went with him once..this was only my second dive...been once in hawaii. He shows you the basics in the pool and lets you take as long as you need to be comfortable. i think he lets you try it in the pool for free to see if you can get it down. its alot of fun and well worth it. i think i spent 80 or 100 for the package..
I dove with Boris 2 years ago and he is great. He truly wants to make sure you have a good time and caters it to the group he takes out.
