Ha! the morning I was leaving I was so hungover - I had been there seven days and still kept going the wrong way. Of course I kept up the nonchalant demeanor of "Yeah, I so meant to go down this hall way three times, but where the hell is the gift shop?" LMAO

I would send several emails directly to the front desk, I did that last year cuz It was shortly after knee surgery and upon check in they had my request right on the computer screen.

If you arrive mid day, the front desk is usually good about trying to accomodate requests for 1st floor, assuming they have a room available. Worst case scenario, you spend a night up a level (or 2) and request a change, and by day 2, they'll have you on 1st floor. In spite of what you may sometimes read, the front desk really is quite reasonable, especially if you treat them politely. I've always found the front desk to be great! Obviously, they can't give you what they don't have, which is why late arrivals may be getting what's left over (room wise).

The attitude of the front desk staff was much improved last trip. I continually had issues with my door key last trip and had to keep going up and down the 3 flights of steps and to the front desk and be let in. I must have been there 8 times over 3 days. Same girl. Finally, I told her that I needed to change rooms if they could not get a key to work. She said they had no rooms available. I asked to speak to the manager who DID have other rooms.
It was 3 am. at this point and the maintainance guys could not get the door open after an hour of trying, finally they had to take the door off so I could get in to get my stuff to move to another room!
Moral of the story...if the front desk doesn't help, ask for the manager!!! He'll help if he can.

I sent requests, they swore they didn't have them. I left my bags and went to play in the pool for a few hours. I didn't get my room until 4-5, but I got just where I wanted.

Moral of the story: Be prepared to wait for the room you want - have a separate bag with swimsuits and just eat lunch and jump in the pool.
