I think I have read on the forum that there is a WalMart or some other grocer/store that sells food and toiletries near the resort. How far away is this? Can you walk?

    Thanks,

    Tom & Arielle

Wal-mart is too far to walk but just a 5 min bus ride. The bus system is real easy to use & real cheap also. Buses run 24 hrs a day. The cost was 75 pesos (75 cents) when we were there last. Same if you go 5 blocks or 5 miles. There are bus stops in front of the resort & across the street. The R-2 buses go to Wal-mart ( it will also say Wal-mart on the windshield). Usually you don't have to wait more than a couple of minutes for a bus. Once you learn how they work (which is very easy) you can get around Cancun quick & cheap. They are safe & a good way to mingle with the locals. We give the driver a small tip, tell him where we are going & he will make sure you don,t miss your stop.

Also there is a small store in front of the resort & a small drugstore across the street if you only need an item or two. Prices are higher of coarse but not too bad. Hope this helps. Have a great time :icon_biggrin:

I would like to give my two cents...
Take the bus there. It's 8.5 pesos per person. If you buy alot, take a taxi back to the hotel. If its a few things get the bus back. The starting price for taxis in the hotel zone start at 100 pesos almost $10. That is rediculous since the R2 bus runs ever 2 minutes

Totally agree! The buses were very easy to get around in and so much cheaper than taxis!

just a quick mention to go to walmart which is downtown you get the R2 bus directly outside Temptation travelling to your right, if you cross the street the buses travelling to your left go right along the hotel zone and to the malls, bars and club zone ie where cocobongos is.The drivers are great you just ask where you want to go and they will shout out where to get off.

If you are planning a trip to walmart you should also stop at Market 28 both of these are considered to be "old downtown" The market is great, you will find lots of shops like you would in the "new downtown" but it is more locals and there are a few other places/shops where I was able to find some really unique items that I couldn't find in "new downtown" such as beautiful unique handpainted glasses and such. there is also a great little food place in the market area where the food is good cheap and locals are playing music, it is quite the experience.
Don't be afraid to take the city bus. the bus stop is right outside of Temptation. the buses do a circle...any bus stops on the same side as Temptation will take you towards old downtown and bus stops across the street will bring you to the tourist new downtown.

No disrespect, but......Please, please, please don't call any part of the hotel zone downtown. It's one of my biggest pet peeves and very confusing for alot of locals and tourist as well. The Hotel Zone has a Party Zone...where the night clubs are, but there is not much to it to label it a "downtown". The only downtown your bus drivers will know is the obvious one. I am just pointing this out so no one gets lost and sent in the wrong direction, again, no disrespect at all. I see too many people getting off at the Plaza Negro Flea Market across from Carlos and Charlies thinking they are at Market 28 cause they weren't clear with the driver.
