Hey guys We are arriving in cancun about 10pm and lord knows how long the immigration process will take, so what i wanted to ask was will we be able to check in late?
That is a question you need to ask your hotel. You should let them know of your late arrival so they don't assume you are a no show. But Immigration at that time should be a breeze. That is an odd hour.
Actually, I got in at 10PM once. The line was still long. Not as long as in the afternoon but still long. God I hate that airport during spring break.
HW, do you know if you fly into mexico city first and transfer to cancun, where they conduct a customs check? I cant remember from my last trip but i could have sworn it was done in mexico city, which made cancun's airport a breeze to go through. to be honest im usually drunk by the time im on and off the plane, so its a bit foggy lol
Not sure about that one, I always fly into Cancun from a US city. If I have to guess, you'll have to go through customs in Mexico city.
Yes, you will go through customs in Mexico City. Your second leg is considered a domestic flight. Easy going once you touch down in Cancun.
Aduanas is friggin weird dude. In 2004, we waited in line for TWO hours plus just to get though the first part where they stamp your passports. The line was SO long that people had to wait at the top of the escalator going downstairs from the gates. People that tried to go down the escalator practically knocked over people waiting at the bottom. Once you got down there, they had winding baracades ALL the way from one side of the room, to the other. We went back and forth, back and forth like a million times! 2005, we waited 10 mins tops. 2008, we waited an hour 2009, we waited 20 mins 2010, not even 5 mins. all flights were before 2pm. Some arriving as early as 9am. Never flew in at night though I think it just depends on how many lines they have open. Those times are only for the lines where you get your stamp on your passport. Then you get your luggage which is usually already put on the side or still going around(since we waited so long for the stamp, with the exception of the last few years). After you get your luggage there is the lovely line for customs or whatever the 2nd part is. I love the sliding little gates! lol. Then you push a button. If it's green your good, if it's red you get a random search. This line to get your immigration paper stamped is usually no longer than 20 minutes but since it's not that far from the double doors that lead to the main walkway that goes outside, it CAN be quite hot. I use this time to get my reservation papers ready for Best Day travel(transfer to hotel-see link on the main CC site) and my confirmation papers for my hotel(these have NEVER been needed, they usually just ask for your license/passport and credit card, but i have them out Just in case!). I KNOW you'll have a great time regardless! It's flippin Cancun!! <3
I got to cancun at noon and it took forever to get through customs! It was really hard trying not to open the bottle of rum we got at the duty free shop to kill time!
Last Spring Break, we arrived in the middle of the day...LITERALLY were in line for 3 hours, probably more, and that's only because we snuck in past a few people to get ahead of the massive forming line. This year, however, I'm getting in on Friday, much earlier in the day and plan to not waste half my first day in the airport...instead I'll waste it getting wasted about town, waiting for Chad to arrive haha
I'm also getting in on Friday around 1145 I hope the line isn't longer than one hour last year it took us 10 minutes. Private limo to the oasis afterwards
