Well we've been lurking on the forum for a while now and after a bit of digging and reading we still have a few quick questions if that's cool. We're a 28yr old couple from Canada, never ever travelled international (outside of going to the USA anyways) and are pretty excited to take our first ever tropical vacation.

We decided on TTR after doing alot of research, we wanted a place where there wouldn't be kids, but not real extreme like hedo, of course we still want to have some "fun". So overall we're real excited\anxious to get there.

Since we've never travelled somewhere like this, we had one main concern after thinking about it. How does getting from the airport to TTR work generally? We've read a bit about booking with a service but we don't know how that all works. We booked with a popular online travel website (not sure if we can mention the name due to advertising rules if there are any) so I guess I should call them to find out if they arranged a shuttle, although I doubt they did. Is it possible to take a cab from the airport or is it a fairly long drive? Any info on this would be great, we know little spanish at all so we don't want to spend the first four hours at the airport trying to ask people out on the pickup lane how to get there.

We read the tips section and got some good ideas, one thing we wanted to be sure on is clothes. Any recommendations for clothes to bring? My wife is a nurse and frankly I'm just a blue collared guy who works outdoors all year so other than weddings and funerals my attire is normally jeans (or shorts) and t-shirts. Anything specific we should bring besides the usual shorts\tshirts\swimsuit (with no top of course lol).

One last thing, we really wanted to check out some of the Mayan ruins while down there, we had the option of booking a tour of them when we pre-paid for our vacation through the website but we were torn a bit when doing so. We decided not to pre-book it because we didn't want it to end up locking in on a specific day in the trip when we didn't know what would be waiting for us, would hate to miss a great event because we booked a Mayan tour a month ahead of time not realizing what would be going on that day. Can we get in on one of those tours after we arrive or does it HAVE to be pre-booked?

Sorry if these questions have been asked over and over, we're just trying to make sure our first vacation ever is a memorable one. :aktion069:

their are many shuttle co. at the airport but booking ahead is your best bet. I always book with Expedia and a shuttle is offered with them. You might want to chech with whom ever you booked with. If you plan to get one when you get to the airport look for BestDay we have used them 4 times and its always been an great company. They also have a person from the Co. working at the resort to set up your return to the airport. Alot of the shuttle companies at the airport are Timeshare people so be careful and book ahead.

    hopefully this helps.

The tour companies run coach buses to get everyone to their hotels. But you have to wait for everyone else who's supposed to be on your bus to get through customs. We waited over an hour one time. After that we book a private shuttle ad tell the tour bus not to wait for us.

I usually bring a 2 or 3 collared shirts and 2 pairs of pants to wear to the nicer restaurants. Tell your wife to bring anything she feels sexy in.

You can book any tour you want right in the hotel when you're there or you can check out Steve's site here and book online. Either way you'll be able to do the excursions you want.

Sounds like your criteria falls right into TTR no kids and not Hedo.
Most of the people you will meet are return travelers to TTR .
I always like to check the forecast before booking an excursion, but there about as good at forecasting weather as our meteorologists here in Canada .Most tour company's Ive delt with include transfers but TTR is the last resort and your the first to get picked up on the way back. Last year that was 4+ hours before departure time.for 55$ you can book with USA Transfers or other company. I'm trying that this year.
You will have fun, there is usually a wide range of ages for everyone, just a number anyway. The food is great.
PS tell your wife to bring her uniform.:lotsofmichaelfs:

two very important tips in reference to arival/shuttle

    (1) no matter what you do when you get through customs/get your bags and clear................WALK STRAIGHT PAST THE TIME SHARE PEOPLE

they will overwhlem you, they will tell you whatever you want to hear to get you to waste your valuable vacation time - they are very convincing and make sure you walk straight past them to the outside

    (2) use USA Transfers - they are one of the only transfer services that will take you and only you directly to your destination without stopping at every other hotel

Temptation is the furtherest resort from the airport and if you use another service you will have to wait till your shuttle bus is full with other travelers and then you will have to stop several time en route to Temptation - again this is your valuable vacation time your wasting

book with USA Transfers - they will have sign for you that says USA Transfers - go to them and only them when you walk outside the airport and they will get you to Temptation very quick

this is a great service and very professional

the only service i use in cancun

    hope this helps

if you have other questions send me a pm

Amen, Rob, use USA Transfers. Dont' hesitate and use a cheaper service or a "people hanging out the window bus". I went to Chichen Itza on a bus and the return trip took two hour extra bcz we stopped at every freeking hotel on the "strip".

Use USA Transfers, google them and get their site and reservation info.

BTW, have a wonderful time at TTR, you won't regret it.

Or just use the autolink in the post, or the button at the bottom of the page :)

Booking via the links on the forum pays me a small commission (the price is the same for you) this helps with the costs to keep the forum running ;)

Even if our package includes tranfers we always book USA tranfers through this site....They are great, very prompt, straight to TTR no stops..unless you ask for one! And they schedule your pick up before they drop you off, they get you to airport in the time frame you need, and you dont have to leave and make alot of stops at other resorts!!! And like Steve said, it helps him...which helps us!

    USA Transfers -

As for excursions, we play it by ear unless Steve is doing a Cancuncare Boob Cruise.

    And remember Steve is awesome
