rdubnpk Looks like the forward looking plans for the Republican party are to extend the tax cuts, including those for the rich and super rich, deny extension of any unemployment benefits (the arguement being because they are unfunded. Could they be funded if we ended the tax cuts for the rich???), and continuing enforcement of "don't ask, don't tell" in the military. If that doesn't fill you with confidence that a big change is a-comin', nothing will. I can see why those deserving millionaires at Goldman-Sachs et. al. who helped bring our economy down, were bailed out, and immediately renewed paying huge bonuses need that extra cash to be left in their pockets.................not. Especially while denying extension of benefits to those they helped put out of a job. America at its best. And Lord help us if some of those we all call "heros' for laying their lives on the line while protecting our freedom might be gay.
I understand where you are coming from, but it is still a Democratic Congress so blaming the Republicans will have to wait until after the first of January. Reality is that we will need both tax increases and spending cuts to bring the deficit under control.
rdubnpk Truthfully, I would willingly forego my tax cut rather than allow the scenario previously mentioned regarding Goldman-Sachs et. al. to occur.
For most people the tax rates are going up about 3% more than they are now. If you've got a taxable income of $100,000 then you'll pay about $3,000 more in income taxes. For most people that extra $250 a month wouldn't make a huge difference in their lifestyle. I think the thing that annoys me as much as anything isn't just the low rates on the upper end, but the massive giveaways on the lower end. Personally I think everyone should pay something. You would be amazed at how many tax returns we see where the refunds are just huge and it isn't from taxes paid in, but from government giveaways. I'd be willing to bet that if we stopped the giveaways on both ends we could balance the budget.
rdubnpk Two years to fix eight years of screw-ups, mostly attributable to the previous administration. Of course, the Dems have proven they can screw it up just as well.
