I booked something similar in June, but it was thru my travel agent. I think we paid $300 total inc taxes for 5 nights, and attended the sales tour. Great deal, but we caved to the pressure and bought a package lol...seemed like a great deal at the time, oh well, we now have 3 wks a year, so have no choice but to go to TTR (or any "Original Resort") every year, woohoo! Trying to look on bright side!
Wierd I even asked my travel agent about this type a deal and she had no idea about them. Is there a web site that sells these deals?
Taxes for that auction are $295 - then there is a surcharge for the time of year you go - could be anywhere from $250 to another $500. Both times I won just the per night auction and got the flights myself. A lot more flexibility that way.
I havent found one yet, mine was thru a previous friend, but not sure she sells travel anymore...perhaps do a search online? But then you don't know what co's are legit.
Certain times of year, the resort has relatively low occupancy. So, they are not turning away a customer who's paying full price to sell you 5 nights at basically their cost. And you will have to attend the sales presentation or undoubtedly be charged quite a bit. Timeshare salespeople (interval ownership or whatever the term of the moment is) are extremely good at what they do. I'm sure they know the conversion rate of people who attend these presentations. That's where they figure they'll really make their money. No, everyone doesn't buy. But enough do that it makes this type promotion work out for them.
Bullet - Have you booked through SkyAuction before? They now have a 7 night trip including roundtrip airfare with the fee of $295 and surcharge for May - June of $185. Fly out of Newark, NJ for additonal $15. That's $500 pp. Sounds too good to be true. Wondering if you or anyone else has booked through there before. I don't see any fine print relating to other surcharges. Thanks, Paul
I love SKYAUCTION!!! Haven't had a bad experience yet. I think they hit you up for $40 each way if you fly on Friday thru Sunday. Also, you are assuming that you will win the auction for close to nothing. The weekly ones usually go for $100 to $200. I'm going on Sunday for $110 per night for 2 of us. We booked the flights separately for $500 so we are coming in at $1,300 for 2 people 7 nights.
Glad to hear good things about Skyauction. I have read mixed reviews, of course most of the negatives were from folks that don't read fine print. We had our first trip in October and can't wait to get back. We plan on going back next October, we booked through RCI and got a great deal. Also got good air fare out of White Plains - $99 each way pp. I'm always checking out deals. Thanks for the heads up. (the-prep) Not sure where you are flying out of but you can usually get some good deals out of the NYC airports Thanks again, Paul
