rdubnpk Am I the only American who could care less about the Prince's upcoming nuptials??? I'm sorry if this rubs you Englishman wrong, but hearing about it every time you turn on the news....
I'm with you... and I'd bet that the prince and his soon to be bride don't think much of it either...
Yep, add me to the "Frankly, I don't give a damn" club about the Prince and whatever her name is. It's funny and really kind of sad that most Americans don't know the names of the leaders of Canada and Mexico but we know some Prince's girl friend's name.
You guys probably hear more about it than we do! Since it became public it hasn't really had that much attention, but now they announced the date this morning it's hit the headlines again atleast the government have declared 29/04/2011 a public holiday so couple that with mayday bank holiday and we'll have a nice long weekend! Thank you HRH!
rdubnpk I'm surprised they don't declare it a holiday over here, as well, but good for you. Did I hear it was going to cost $55 million to hold the wedding??
As part of the Commonwealth the Queen is technically our head of state. In theory she could override any bill passed by our government. In practice however the Royal Family has no real influence on our government. She's like an appendix but we needed someone to put on our coins as the head.
You know I've wondered the same thing.. when I was a kid we use to sing god save the queen, when I was in the service i was told to take off my beret whenever there was a picture of the queen in a room.. I do know that when she comes to vist... or any of them for that matter it costs this country a friggin fortune..:blueshock: We were part of the british common wealth... but don't think we are any longer... so we are stuck with this figure head I guess.:icon_eek: Deb
yeah something like that, majority of it on security, but I guess it's small a small price to pay when you take associated revenue in to account .. plus it's not like it happens often!
