I'm sure you'll feel better to know that those who won't work will have health coverage and it will be better coverage than you can get. My wife just found out she needs a specialist. First available appointment is the end of January. And just think, this is just the beginning of Obamacare.
Since when has the insurance NOT gone up? The "Obamacare" is just a convenient cover story/excuse... anyone who thinks the rates would have stayed the same is living in a dream world... besides the health insurance companies have to cover their hundreds of millions of dollars in campaign contributions to the Republican party somehow... and by cover I mean pass it on to their customers... For some historical perspective of average costs... before the much feared "Obamacare"...
Life, prior to this year the health insurance industry had split their political contributions evenly between both Republicans and Democrats. Since Obama beat up the industry and his unsuccessful push for a government insurance plan, the industry has switched their contributions to the Republicans. Personally I don't think any corporation, labor union, or non-profit should be allowed to make any political contributions. We have developed into government for sale to the highest bidder. The best example of what Obamacare meant to the health insurance industry is how their stock prices spiked when Obamacare passed. It only stands to reason that when government mandates that children have to be covered up to the age of 27 even though they may be married and on their own and that pre existing conditions can't be denied that the costs are going to skyrocket.
Oh I know. We are already feeling it..... Our special needs son that has been with the same specialist is now having to wait MONTHS to get in.In Emergency cases were told "sorry can't see you we are full " off to Er we go. We asked what was up? We was told more on public health care . Bc of his needs she is one of two(one whom we refuse to see) we can see in the area. Going to have to look into going to Texas again for his treatment( we have done it before). Thankfully our family Dr has already told the office staff our family is to get in no matter how busy she is :aktion033:
I KNOW OUR rate is going up more then twice that it has before or so were told. We are also told co payments will be more etc yadda yadda. Guess we will see soon.
Honest question from the uninformed... When they said your rates are going up do they just justify it as "Obamacare" or explain where these new charges are coming from and what they are going into? The pessimistic side of me says that a lot of companies are raising rates more than the actual increase in cost to take advantage of the new law you guys have now. I guess I am wondering if there is any regulatory mechanism in place to control the price structure of health care in your country?
There are state regulatory agencies which are supposed to review the requests and then rule on them. Sometimes the agencies growl and grumble, but eventually they just give in. The costs have gone up every year and the coverages have gone down every year. The added burden, perceived or actual, of Obamacare is being stated as the reason for the huge jumps. We're looking at close to a 20% increase in costs for our health insurance and we have Health Savings Accounts. One of the big fears we have is that those who need the care the most, such as Angels Among Us' child, will not be able to get them because the system will be overloaded. I think we are beginning to see that already. I guess the bottom line question is "Is health care a right or a privilege?" You will note that Congress and the President are exempt from Obamacare, so I'm guessing it is a privilege for the chosen few.
yes it totally is already going on. We went from being able to call and get in in pretty soon to now having to wait sometimes over a month. ( we use ER more for needs which cost us more also) when it comes to his CP needs as our family Dr. does not Treat CP .
Every developed nation in the world, except the U.S., has a comprehensive system of health care covering the entire population. Ideology, and the godless "profit motive", have prevented this from being the case in the U.S.
I just got back from a forum on cross border trade between the US and Canada. One of their major points was that we need to market our medical services more to Canadians. This was particularly true with cancer treatments, certain surgeries, and strokes. Apparently there is a very high percentage of hospital beds in our area that are occupied by Canadians who can't get a particular treatment in Canada. The Canadian System works great for the day to day items, but some specializations do require services outside of the area. Please note Canadians that I said SOME. Their control of drug costs is incredible and should serve as a model for us in the US. V, I'm going to take issue with ideology and the profit motive as being the evil within the system. I don't know how old you are nor where you grew up, but my guess is that you are pretty close in age to me. If you are, then you may remember a system where doctors made house calls, you only went to the doctor when you were sick and you paid for those doctor visits at the time you went. What changed? The big change was the US government decided to get involved and medicare was formed. Now we find there are drugs that cost thousands of dollars per month but the taxpayers foot the bill. People who don't need services clog emergency rooms because it is "free." Doctors get out of their practices because of the massive law suit frenzy that surrounds all medical practitioners. Evil Corporations? Yes to some extent, but I would have to add evil corporatons aided by an idealistic and incredibly naive government.
