Since my original post things have changed for the worse. As of the 11pm update the prediction is upgraded to a Cat 2 hurricane and it's looking like it will pass much closer to Cancun than was forecasted earlier, possibly a direct strike. My guess, at this stage, would be your flight will be cancelled. I dont know TTR policy on what happens if it does. I guess it depends on who you booked through - if using premier I'm sure they'll carry it over for you if you cant physically get there.
Are they trying to get people out of there today? We are hearing nothing about this storm here in NY. BTW we are booked with Best Day through the Cancuncare website for our transport to hotel. How do we let them know if flight is canceled and what is their policy as far as if we never get there this time around. Will they credit us? I think once our flight gets canceled by the time we get rebooked we will lose to many days to make the trip worth going. I have insurance on the hotel but they would not insure the airfare do to us using points for the flights.
No one is being evacuated as far as I know. The threat has lessened again since last night as it's not a Cat 2 any more only a Cat 1 (and only just that). I'm only speculating that the airport will be closed due to the fact that it looks like it will be at its closest point at around the time you're due to arrive. It's impossible to say for certain, the hurricane is only a small one in extent and it may amount to nothing much at all in Cancun itself. If Cancun airport is closed then your flight will either be delayed or cancelled. If it's open then your flight will almost certainly go as planned and they'll fly around it. As for Best Day, I'm not sure what their policy is but if the airport is closed they wont be sending anyone to pick anyone up and it's likely they'd issue a refund or credit. If its open then they have hundreds of customers arriving throughout the day so if you're later than planned just find someone in a Best Day shirt and tell them you're here and you'll have no problem. In the unlikely event you do have a problem with Best Day let me know and I'll get it fixed.
Steve, hope you and all the other ex-pats down there keep dry and safe! I have my fingers crossed that the storm comes and goes quickly!
Category 2 again now, 100mph winds with gusts up to 120mph. People are boarding up windows, and getting beer in before they shut down the sale of alcohol. This one could get nasty.
Steve you should always have a week supply of beer and ice on hand regardless! I hope the storm doesn't have a bite worse than its bark.
That map update looks like its pushing out to sea a bit more then it had said before, that could be a good thing
Nice if we do get there tomorrow we won't even get be able to get a drink. Beginning to sound like the vacation from hell. If this does hit I prefer they cancel our flight and we will just have to go another time.
Be positive... make sure to get a bottle from duty free and even if they aren't serving that day I am sure the taps will be opened the next. :ernaehrung005: Positive thoughts will make the trip go better
