I've always liked that one. That's the regimen I've always used when working out at the gym mainly because I read somewhere it speeds up the metabolism more than just running at the same pace for extended periods of time.

What i used to do was to take part in a half marathon two weeks before the full marathon event. i would run it at the pace i was aiming to run the full marathon at. it gave me a great indicator of my real level of fitness and also got me used to pacing myself properly. My longest run would be 20 miles 3 weeks before the marathon. It doesnt matter how slow it is , just get it into your mind that you only have 6 more miles to achieve.

Thanks for the tips. I think the main deterent is that I work 12 plus hour 7 days a week. I did my overtime early today and got a good 9 hours sleep. I just ran to my friends house which is almost 10 miles in an hour 20. The breathing techniques worked alot. I didn't get a stitch once. Of course I'm going to crash for another 12 hours now but I'm motivated I can do this in the entirety instead of just settling for the half marathon. Thanks again!

    i am certain of this..........

going to mexico a couple of time every year forces us to keep an eye on the things we eat and the amount of time we exercise

i never did any of this before we started going on trips there

on our last trip i got all the way down to 195 (ideal wieght for me is about 185) from 221 before our first trip there in 2006

i am fairly certain that the lifestyle changes associated with our trips will have me at 185 before our april trip to cabo

so yes these trips are actually incredibly helathy

I agree with that. When I moved to Texas I fell in love with the tacos and shot up to around 250 and being 5'9 (which is no record for my people but tall) then circumstanses dictated that I had to go backpacking through Europe for three months and with all the walking I got down to 190 which is where I've stabalized for the last several years. As soon as I got to my friends house from the run I jumped on the scale and was 185. In an ideal world I can drop another 10 before the trip but it's amazing how much of it is diet. All exercise being equal just cutting out the crap means wonders. I do like the feeling of acclomplishment also as my friend pointed out I'm an egotistical bastard but I like having the goal of a marthon before I hit 30. I'm never going toe be cut or ripped but it is nice waking up in the morning and looking in the mirror and thinking "I'd f@#k that. As long as your happy with yourself is all that matters.

Nope hardly......that never seemed to get off as most would not commit to doing the western thing. Just let us know a day you wanna meet and well get together. It's not llike we wouldn't have lots to talk about if we went for supper and drinks. We both love Temptations. I think Glenn and I are planning to go to cancun again after my daughter's graduation on may 19th next year. We wanna go for the cancuncare reunion and meet up with old and new friends.

Hi Rob thanks for the offer. If you look through some of my posts you will see that i now have arthritis of the spine and psoriatic arthtitis of the joints. They think this was brought on by my continuous training on hard surfaces which these days they advise against. It has been my greatest disappointment that just as my times were coming down i had to stop racing.
I envy you but i am unable to run any distance these days.
