Did anyone know that Plaza Las Americas is now charging 10 pesos for parking? I did not know this and I assume that the other 10 cars in front of me did not know it either. There aren't any signs saying that they are now charging for the parking. The problem is that a few people in front of me did not want to pay and therefore caused a huge traffic jam as they tried to back all of the way out, which is very hard to do when there is 10 cars behind you. It was quite a frustrating and comical event. It was really interesting to see how these people tried to back their cars out. Some just sat there for 15 minutes, refusing to move. I think I lost a little hearing from all of the horns blaring. Anyway, get ready to pay 10 pesos to park at the Plaza.

Well.. the old side has always charged for parking.. and I suspect the new side was just waiting to get the permits... meanwhile everyone found out and was going to that side to park for free.. until now that is...

Now if Costco starts charging for parking that will royally piss off their clients... the ones who already pay for the privileged to shop there... I think they are just waiting for permission from the city... They had better be prepared for a backlash though.. its not like the mall where there is a lot to do, if the Costco and Mega charge, people will just go elsewhere... but it certainly wouldn't be the first time I've seen a successful business go downhill out of greed...

I don't know which is considered the "old side," but this was in the area where Farmacia Similares is and the entrance to Chedraui. I never seen them charge a fee to park there since I arrived 3 months ago.

The rumour I heard was that Costco will still let card holders park for free, the problem is the proximity to the football stadium. Every game the car park fills up with cars of people who aren't there to shop.

Whether that's true or not we'll see.

I would hope that's the case, but a few things make me think otherwise.. mainly the pay station right by the exit door of Costco obviously there for customers who would be leaving Costco to pay their parking... and what of the customers to the Mega? I supoosed they could validate the parking at every register, but if that's the case wouldn't everyone just go and buy a 6 peso drink instead of paying the parking fee when they use the lot for a game?... As you said we'll see.. but it certainly will irk me if I have to pay even more for the privileged to shop at Costco... and I really doubt people will pay just to shop at the Mega when Soriana, Walmart, and Chedurai are so close by without the BS...

I was also surprised! I think they've always charged to park in the underground deck beneath the old part at Las Americas.

Now, however, they're even charging to park in the outdoor parking lot outside the Chedraui entrance. With all the taxis going in and out of there, it gets pretty ridiculous.

My brother-in-law got stuck in the new parking lot behind Malecon last week because he didn't know he had to pay. He had to go inside to ask a friend for the change so he could leave.

Went to the Mega / Costco on Kabah yesterday and noticed that they have begun the process to charge for parking. First 3 hours are free if you buy something at Mega. Not sure if Costco validates the ticket too (since I did not go in there).

I was at Costco the other week. They were validating tickets if you bought something. I believe they were also validating tickets if you had a Costco membership card even if you had not made a purchase.

It is something that Cancun should get used to now. From what I know, within the next two years they are going to have a sophisticated street parking system as well. It will start in the high traffic zones and work its way out to the Avenidas in residential zones as well. Mexico city is already underway of installing their version of it.

We parked at Plaza Las Americas yesterday for 4 hours, it cost us 10 pesos (10 pesos for the first 5 hours).

If I were to have parked for the same length of time in my home town at the big shopping mall, I'd have had to pay around £4 or about 80 pesos.

    It aint that bad really.
