Looking for some good suggestions for restaurants in the area that are worth going to. AI is fine, but we like to explore other food locations during our trip in December.
One I have is if you ever get to Playa Del Carmen, I suggest "ALUX" pronounced "alush". If it's still in business, it's amazing for the atmosphere. It's underground, with stalagmites/stalagtites all around and some amazing ways they have incorporated the natural cave formations into lounge areas. And belly dancers at night as well!

I second this suggestion. We went last year and the food was great. Who knew that crocodile would taste like chicken?:icon_eek:

yes we always have a night across the street as much as you can eat of every type of meat etc you can manage, they just keep coming to the table with fresh offerings until you beg for mercy .. its about 35 dollars per head i think xx always try a few of the restaurants on yaxchillian avenue down town for tasty typical mexican..

Try La Parrilla or La Habichuela. Both are in downtown Cancun and very good. La Parrilla reminds me of the Mexican restaurants that you find in the states but obviously way more authenic. La Habichuela is in a romantic setting with great food and great atmosphere.

The food at the Rio is good, but I would recommend that you take a cab to downtown and get more of the Mexican experience.

Stay away from the Hotel Zone restaurants unless you are looking for a sports bar or just looking to party.

    another add

How about on Isla Mujeres? Local flavor. Don't wanna hi-jack the thread, but Isla may be another off-premise option
