Today another oil rig in the gulf of mx. Are they not taking care of these things at all! How many lifes have to be lost how much of our oceans will be destroyed before they learn thier lesson? I can promise if it belongs to bp I will never buy gas from again!
It's a damn shame & very unfortunate, but I am somewhat glad this keeps happening because I beleive it is the only way there will ever be a serious push towards some altenative source of energy, or maybe that's just a dream that will never come to fruition.
First off, it wasn't a BP rig that had the issue. Also if you are thinking that not buying gas from BP will make any difference, it won't. No matter what the sign says, the gas you buy probably comes from the same refinery and it may be BP or Shell or Sunoco or even Citgo (which is owned by Hugo Chavez's nationalized oil company). The gas station you buy fuel from is an independant station most likely owned by a small business owner who is just trying to survive like the rest of us. To give you an example of how off the wall some of the environmental concerns can be, there is a well in the Gulf that is leaking 2 gallons of crude a day. The crude is being captured so there is zero pollution. Our beloved government is making the company close the well off. Cost to close it.....$75 million. Sorry but that doesn't make any sense to me. Oh, and by the way, the biggest polluter in the world appears to be Shell but you don't hear about that because they are polluting in Africa and I guess that doesn't matter because it doesn't affect us.....or maybe they have a better lobby than the rest of the oil industry.
I know it wasn't a Bp rig, second I don't care if it is a local owner of bp. The owner will fill it first but on the back side it will make bp stock fall. And there is also an oil leak by chevron in Salt lake. I know these facts but it the human casulty I'm concerned with most not that I'm not worried about the environment but I don't think anyone should have to work in unsafe conditions. Thus the reason for OSHA they come in to our shop on a regular basis why not an oil rig.
Actually Mike it won't hurt BP stock one iota. The sales for BP gas would be at the refinery level, not at the gas station level. Even if it did harm BP stock, what would that accomplish? If the company goes down, there is no money to pay the claims and everyone loses. The fault of the whole mess may not even be BP's. The blowout preventer that was used on the rig was made by Cameron. The pictures of the preventer do not look at all like anything they make which means that the preventer may have been altered. If it had been, then the fault may very well be with TransOcean, the driller. I understand your frustration, but we are addicted to oil and the only way to avoid importing it is to use our own. This means that we have to look for it and get it where we can. As for the dangers, there is danger in every work environment. Some more than others and oil is among the most dangerous. As for OSHA, they have a habit of really overreacting to situations.
Now is BP's petroleum used for the production of the product AstroGlide, if so I can't go along with the boycott. Sorry...
OSHA and the Federal government inspect these rigs in the oceans, and on land.It is ludicrous that everyone says "Oh we have to stop drilling and exploring for petroleum". Finding an alternative energy source is great, but do you realize all the things that are petroleum products or petroleum based? Plastics, rubber, paint, building material, the computer's were sitting at,the roads we drive on, all the rubber and plastic parts in all of our expensive toys, the little scented candles our wives burn, contact lens, the big flat screen TV in your living room, all the cool stuff at your favorite restaurant, ink pens, ink. I think i am getting my point across. If you stop the production of oil it will affect every aspect of life as it is known. Also as Twinimini stated if everyone stopped buying gas from BP it would not matter at all to them. All that would end up hurting is the locals in your community that happen to have their store branded BP. As for BP they would just file bankruptcy, screw all the people they owe money to and be open for business the next day under a new name. Just my 2 cents worth.
