Oh how I love the idea of a gay bar next door to "The Mosque." How about a synagogue next door? A Victoria's Secret across the street would be a nice touch also. What? You say that would offend the Islamic cleric. He's offending the rest of us, so I think he should deal with some offensive buildings also.
They became terrorists when they started blowing up markets and targeting civilians. Otherwise they would simply be considered insurgents. Back to the mosque issue.. judging by the map below.. I have slightly less opposition as it does seem further away from "ground zero" than I originally thought... the idea of opening gay bars and BBQ places next door is amusing, but I'd think a more polite approach would be to open a non-denominational Christian church and Jewish Center next door.. after all if they really wish to promote religious harmony they should be all for that idea. I still feel that the true intents of the sponsors and financiers who want to build this mosque are VERY questionable, especially after they flatly rejected to even consider moving to free government land as offered by the governor of NY.. without even asking what locations were being offered.. so they REALLY want to be right there.. which is suspicious to me... unless their intent is to provoke.. which is exactly what is happening... seems like a win, win for them either way if their intent is malicious... if they can't build they can use that example to turn more hatred against the US, and if they do build the extremists can use it as a victory mosque... so its a tricky situation that they've intentionally created... if they really want to start something they can build it then blow it up themselves and blame the infidels.. then we'll really be in a mess... I wouldn't put it past the extremists to do something like that to stir the hate. In any event it's looking like this will now be a political thing so they have successfully deepened the divisions in the US which I suspect was their goal all along other wise they would have quietly built their mosque down the road somewhere without the drama...
Ok...you all win.. Building a Mosque near Ground Zero is a bad idea. Just like building Catholic Churches are near playgrounds. Hell.. all Catholic schools should be closed because there might be a child molester priest in their midst. And as everyone knows child molesters look on Catholic schools as a sign that what they do is right. So lets not just stop with the Mosque. Lets get rid of anything that evil people could possibly draw strength from.
Life: Well, even when they blew up civilian personnel and medics(Russian) they were still called "freedom fighters"... There are always a minimum of two sides in a war/conflict: For the Russians, the mujahideen were always "terrorists"... For the Americans it was the opposite. I do understand that the term has to be changed once they become your enemy. A HUGE part(majority) in war is propaganda. That made me think of French fries becoming "freedom fries", haha @4biddenpleasrs: I have a better idea. Ban religion, no exceptions. Yes, I am serious.
I'm not 100% but I don't think they bombed markets, schools, police stations, and hospitals during the Soviet/Afghan fight.. but I may very well be wrong.. that could just be their "style" of fighting over there.... either way its ugly... and I do understand what you're saying about all things being a matter of perspective... still though.. when you purposely try to kill civilians to cause terror and disrupt society.. that by definition is terrorism... as I said before, to me that's the difference... the US does a lot of things, and has killed innocent people no doubt.. but to my knowledge "we" don't target civilians.. (not during my lifetime anyway) and we certainly don't use them as human shields around our bases of operations... we also don't make a habit of gruesomely decapitating our POW's, stoning and lashing our women to death for trivial "offenses", or violently amputating the hands and feet of suspected criminals while chanting "God is great" the whole time... if the Muslim community want's the rest of the world to think better of them they need to make it known that they condemn these sorts of things and put an immediate stop to them. Why are some people "afraid" of them..? because we don't want our societies to turn into what we see in the Middle East and Africa...
And you could say that this is what the Muslim community is trying to do with this project. We also believe everything the mainstream media tells us. They cut out important pieces of information and show us a slanted view. Let me put it another way. A new family moves onto your street and instead of going to meet them, you hear it from someone else that they're trouble because they used to live in the bad part of town. So you spend your days whispering with everyone else about the new people and every time they wave hello you snub them.
@Life: I didnt mean "Muslims" as such, just Bin Laden an his fellow men. Im not going into the whole stoning and suppressing women stuff since NONE of my Muslim friends support that behavior and doesn't not consider it to be part of the religion itself. Most friends have in fact escaped their countries due to fanaticism... I say ban religion - no exceptions. I dont consider any religion to be better or worse than the other. Its all the same cr*p if you ask me. There are nut jobs within EVERY religious branch - we as humans have not been able to handle it since "it started" and its certainly NOT any better nowadays.
I agree with you, at the moment we are talking about the muslims, if we look back through out history and check the horrible things Christians have done in the name of god. Burning of so called witches, spanish inquisition, beatings, etc.... all in the name of Christ, God, Mary.. etc. "Its all the same cr*p if you ask me." Evil crap
I'm all for banning religion but isn't that completely against what the USA is all about. Freedom to do, say or believe in anything you want? short of hurting people.
