I think a lot of people would take him back if they could.. he wasn't perfect of'course, and he had a few notable embarrassments but overall I think the country did well under his tenure... I've even known a lot of Republicans that really liked him as president.. and after all anyone who plays the sax couldn't be that bad.. ;)

Where do you get this type of information that the majority of his policies are a continuation of the Bush Administration. Far from it. He took everything that Bush and his predecesors did and changed it. He made the health care plan his top priority. No other President wanted this type of plan because its nothing but a joke and many will pay more then ever for health care. He raised spending like nobody else. This is not a contiunation of any policy of any President. This is the "LIBERAL" agenda. Spend, spend and if you can't save spend again. The country got into trouble for people spening above their means. Obama said this was bad and people should change, yet he and his pals are spending like there is no tomorrow.

I do not like him, his politics and his agenda. All he will do is bring this country down to the lowest point it has ever been in history.

"Divided States of America" sounds more right than "United States of America"... :icon_cool:

As a foreigner, its very interesting to see the so called "Most Powerful nation in the World" behave like two kids in a sandbox...

Yikes. Why doesnt America pull together to fix the country?

It all seems to be about badmouthing "the others" instead of actually focusing on whats best for the majority.

One question: Why cant US "copy" health care from countries where it actually works...?

Back home(Sweden) we pay high taxes, but we get a hell of a lot out of it. Even went on a ambulance-helicopter when I broke my leg skiing... didn't cost me a singe "cent".

Still get tax refunds in the end of the year as well... The minimum so far has been approx 5000$US.

I have never paid a single medical bill, regardless what the issue was.

In most countries, I just showed my passport and health card and I get free care - the consulate/embassy takes care of that.

Now, I do NOT mean to provoke anyone, just simply trying to understand the big fuss about socialized health-care and why it doesnt seem to fly in US.

Seems to work with libraries, fire dept, police etc. - Why not health-care? Is it because of all the big medical companies that always are looking for profit, regardless how the profit is generated?

It just seems so backwards that in year 2010 you guys are still not clear on helping out the "neighbor"...

    For me its scary.

Note that I mean all politicians, regardless left, right or middle etc.

The problem is you here the "people" complaining because the politicans won't offer plans like other countries have. Instead of them going to other countries that have a plan in place that works and following it's design they come up with thier own plans. The health care reform he is proposing doesn't give health care to everyone. It says that every company must offer Health care to it's employess, some can't afford to do that. If they don't they will pay huge fines. If a employer offers health care and the employee doesn't take it then they pay huge fines. If you don't have a job, lazy good for nothing free loaders, then the gov't will give you insurance. Don't get me wrong if you are truely medicaly disable and can't work or are elderly and retired I have no issues helping to take care of you. But, if you are an able body you need to get up and get a job I will not support your laziness. This is not health care reform this is forceing people to pay the high prices of health care the insurance co. gives you. This sounds like Obama is in bed with the Insurance companies. And, we will all be forced to pay it our rights and choice are being taken away. He isn't helping anyone many people will close the doors on thier businesses before this takes affect. My in-laws have already decided to close thiers because they can't afford to do this. His plan is going to cost alot of jobs and send this country into another depression. Again, for everyone that supports him read his policies before you blindly follow him into the abyss.

The thing about the US is its run by the big corporations. Sure we could just raise taxes across the board by a few percentage points and have a system similar to Sweden, but that would effectively put the insurance companies out of the heathcare business.. and since 99% of the people in Washington take huge "contributions" (ie: payoff/bribes) from those vary companies that will never happen regardless of whats in the best interest of the people... as for the unemployed and people who refuse to work WE ALREADY PAY for their healthcare via welfare, medicare, medicaid, and inflated hospital bills (since they can't be refused services and just stick the hospital with the bill) so its not as if that is changing.. if anything bills should go down eventually because the hospitals will get their money from the government instead of from the next paying patient.

& Mike you can tell your in-laws to just hire everyone as contract workers and they won't be required to provide ANY benefits if that's how they want to run their business...

I see your point(well, some parts) but this issue has been around for quite a while...

This is what I meant with "Divided States of America" - Many will benefit from this, but others will suffer.

I think the tables are turned: The ones that "had it all" now have to give to "the others"...

maybe split the country in two blocks? "Republicans" and "Liberals"...? :)

The ones that want "this" can live "here", the ones that wants "that", can live "there". (Not a 100% serious obviously...)

All I have EVER read, watched and listened to regarding US politics is the incredible amount of crap that everyone says about the opposition...

For me its both astonishing and very interesting to observe and Im happy I dont have to be affected by it personally.

Back home we have a coalition, consisting of Moderaterna(Capitalist party), The Christian democrats(LOL!) and The Center party...

Being a country of "scary socialism", this group has managed to mess it all up in only 4 years...

Last time they were in power, they were thrown out after 2 years, due to wasting all the money, removing high income taxes and destroying both schools and health care... Each term ia 4 years, and the made it through 2 years before they got kicked out by the people.

They even tried to allow Mc Donalds to sponsor schoolbooks... Yuck.

The prime minister "loves" G W Bush and calls him a "misunderstood, decent man"... He had to apologize to the entire nation for that comment... :D

Anyways, Im amazed that most of the effort seems to be about trash-talking "the others", rather than actually growing up and doing whats best for the entire(aka majority) of the people.

Im sure you guys could ask for or "buy" a working, universal health care system from another country.

Why trying to reinvent the wheel?

The friends I have that live in US have actually benefited from this reform and have been able to afford surgeries, so I can see that its clearly working for some.

The other "Obama v/s Bush" Im not going to go into as G W had 8 years(cheating in at least 1 election...) to mess things up, not only on home-soil but especially world wide... Yikes.

lets just say that the rest of the world sighed when it was clear that Mrs Nutcase Palin didnt become VP... Crazier than Dubya, haha ;)

Life: Was typing when you replied.

    Good points though.

Its scary(for me at least) how the insurance companies(which I know are all about big $$$) are allowed to be involved so much in politics.

Your health care system has not been destroyed by Obama - this issue has been around waaaay longer.

Do you think Americans would approve of "copying" lets say France`s health care system, or would it be too much against the national pride in the country?

You've got it rawkus, basically it has little to nothing to do with substance and everything to do with politics.. if the Democrats do something, it's the dumbest, most irresponsible thing in the world as far as Republicans are concerned, and if the Republicans do something its the same response from the Democrats..

Although in my personal experience it seems like the Republican voices tend to scream louder.. I've never had a Democrat familiy member go on and on about things, but I've had a few Republican ones who kept a picture of Regan on their fireplace and did little more than complain and listen to Rush Limbaugh and Foxnews all day. This thread for example seems to follow that trend.. most of the democrats (assuming) are staying out of it or keeping quiet while the Republicans (assuming again) are really having at it...

I've said it before.. I'd be in favor of outlawing political parties.. the block mentality in the US does nothing but divide and create bad legislation. If everyone had to actually form their own opinion rather than just following their party perhaps the lawmakers could actually be productive and know what they are voting on.

& no I doubt the US would ever "copy" any other country's plan as then the politicians couldn't take credit for it.
