Add Los de Pescado tacos to that list T.J - I keep going and they keep getting soggier and soggier - they used to be the crispiest, tastiest fish tacos in North America...Now he's opened loads of outlets his standards have slipped, today's tacos in Las Americas were the last straw - resulting in no more custom from me!
Matkirk have you tried La Playita? Its across the street from Plaza del Toros...they are our favorite for fish tacos and ceviche!
Can't comment on HK's restaurant service as we've not been since they were located on Coba but we sure do like like their home delivery service, especially the chow meins! They're quick, polite, helpful to those with minimal Spanish skills and the food always arrives nice and hot!
I always see that place on my way to work and mean to try it. It always seems to have people as well. I'm guessing it's pretty good then and will definitley give it a try! (Luna Rossa, just round the corner, is one of my favorites for Italian - good prices, friendly service, tasty food, etc.)
Origins of tipping Yeah this is quite a contrast with many places all right: I think it's based on the Communist ideology that there is honor in work and that as a matter of fairness everyone should have an opportunity to work for an adequate wage paid for a job of sufficient social importance to justify that wage We're so accustomed to tipping in our societies that we don't consider the historical implications involved in someone being so relatively well off they just toss money to those who are not Now of course we've moved beyond that to just about everybody being "obligated" to tip and thereby supplementing the otherwise poor wages being paid that person- a problem of a different sort Tipping reaches its most unpleasant modern extremes in places like NYC where people are expected to give enormous sums to those in the "servant" class at New Years- including doormen- failing in which they risk social ostracism ______________________ By the way Tom- how many people were you feeding with all that food being prepared there: that looked like quite a spread! (For more details see Tom's website mentioned above)
SAM - Probably Hola Asia and/or David Lau's. Both very good. MAT - La Playita is great. Cheap, casual, good stuff. Trina and Bundy first took me there. We took my daughter there in March and she and her b/f loved it too. JIM - Thanks for the disclaimer of sorts but I am missing your point. All I was trying to do was to perhaps forewarn others of my misfortune to eat at Hong Kong on a Saturday night, after the buffet closes, unless they want to eat in an assembly plant. Forewarned is forearmed, sort of like Ben 10. Oops, that is FOUR ARMS. Caveat emptor, mis amigos.
